Just wondering what Oil filter you folks have been using. I just changed my oil yesterday and used the factory one I got for $8 bucks, came with a washer too. I haven't checked if they make an after market one ie, Fram, Purolator, etc...... But I would think they may not have it cross referenced in their books yet. But maybe we could use the same after market one for the Odyssey, Accord, MDX? Has anyone tried this yet? Or should I stick with the factory one?

I'm currently using K&N Gold, 1004, I believe, but don't quote me on the part number. I wanted to use Mobil 1, but Mobil 1 does not sell their oil filters in Canada.

Rip is correct...I use K&N Gold oil filters as well...HP1004

The Purolator # is L14610. This is a GREAT filter for very little money. I'll use these once my K&Ns are gone.

K & N

Wow, I did not even know K & N made oil filters (I've been using their air filters for years) Now heres the stupid question on my part, is the K & N filter reusable? or disposable?

I used the Bosch 3312 (~5$). If your into STP, try 2808(~$3). I'm gonna stay with these or the Mobil-1 104(~$10) because my filter wrench fits all three.

Just to note, all three of these filters are made by the same manufacturer with small degrees of separation. I cannot comment on the others mentioned, but I understand the K&N & the Purolator are also quite good.

Sagepearl,

I recall that delivery of your Pilot was at the beginning of this month. If you have already changed your oil, I was wondering about that special "oil" that Honda puts into its new engines to allow its components to sit properly? I recall past posts that strongly recommends leaving this "break-in" oil in for some period of time before changing.

Maybe I am wrong, but just checking. :)

Oh, BTW, sending you a quick "Hello" from another islander!

Aloha,
Well I had around 1400 miles on it when I changed it. Not to worried about any break in oil. I will change it again at 4000 and then around 3500 to 4000 miles apart after that.

oil filter from Tim

Sagepearl;

You do know that Tim sells the Honda oil filter for $5?
Do you think there are better filter than the Honda's?
I guess I can use Purelator and save some money but for now I will stick with Honda's.

OK, so a filter every 5,000 miles, and ocer a life of 150,000 that is 30 filters. So we save $3 a filter, and in about 7 to 10 years we have a whopping $90.

I have much better things to worry about :2:

Maybe "Worry" is not the best word to choose.

Better things to wonder about?

Re-read the thread. Your post, as is mine, is off-topic. Besides, a penny saved is a penny earned. No wondering or worrying about that.

Guess this turned into a jay - N_Jay te-tuh-te, as they say. :^)

hey guys

the real issue with my post was, do you think there are better filter than what Honda sells? I guess the answer is yes, but where and who and how much they sell it for?

Sorry guys, didn't mean to start a rift between anyone...

If anything, I started it. My second post was my poor way of taking a pot shot. My apologies.

P.S. Click here to recall what I'm talking about...

lxblack,

Yes, there are better filters than the stock Honda. Mobil 1 and Pure One are two of the better filters, for filtering performance and construction, but they are more expensive. Although, NJay makes a good point, in reverse, if you spend an extra $3 per filter, the additional cost over the life of the vehicle is negligible.
