My wife's 2010 Pilot makes a clicking or hammering noise for about 20 seconds when she starts it up. It is coming from under the console area to the drivers side. Realize there is probably a bunch of stuff under there but wondering if anyone has any ideas. Tried a search and got no results. Thanks in advance for any input.

Too funny, My wife's 2010 109K honda pilot just developed this noise as well. It happens for about 10-15 seconds right at start up, it does not matter whether the AC is on or not. is a loud clicking noise, right under the center console, limited to no vibration. If I find something I will post, if you do, please do as well.

my 2009 Honda pilot with 135k just starting making the same noise that gabgab96 posted. It started today. I cleaned the screen around the rear blower and change the air filter. It stops after about 20 seconds or so. IF someone figures this out please post a solution. Its not the easiest space to get into.

Mine started this past weekend. I also found the link RRPilot99 has posted, when I get a chance I will attempt to remove the console. I have about 90k on the 2010 pilot now.

Air mix motor

Just left the dealer. My 2011 Pilot had the same 30-second rattling noise from the center console at startup, and according to the dealer it is coming from the Air Mix Motor. They have ordered the part for me, and it will cost $484 to replace (including parts, labor, and tax). Not sure how hard this would be if you did it yourself, or what the part cost alone is.

This just started for me today as well. I have an 09 Pilot with 115K on it. Did the Air Mix Motor solve the issue? Did others find that this caused their issue or was it something else (like a relay)?

Have a 2010 Pilot that started the same noise/vibe under the console at start up. So here it is: the air mix motor for the rear a/c unit. You have to remove the center console to get access to it. Takes about 2 hours to do the job and the part costs anywhere from $148 (MSRP) to $98 (online). It is the most fwd motor on the driver's side of the console. You have to remove the 2 vent panels on the dash (don't forget the electrics attached to them), lower panels on each side of the console, and the rear a/c panel (you do not have unplug the a/c connector as it is tricky and you can work around it. You do have to unplug the electrical for the power ports and the small light that is in the console, under the armrest.) Once all the attached hardware is removed, lift from the rear and slowly pull back (it will try to hang at from where roll up door is at the front of the console to the bottom of the dash due to riveted nut plate )and set it in the back seat. No thanks to the previous posters and you're welcome for future solution seekers.

Mod note offensive language removed.

Does anyone happen to have parts numbers for these parts, our 2011 just developed this and I'd like to take care of it. From what I've seen from the posts, it could either be the air mix motor or a relay, but as True_jerk pointed out no solutions were really ever posted. Other than they took it to the dealer and got it taken care of or got the part ordered. That doesn't help, I do this stuff myself if I can so I need the part numbers. And are the 2 air mix motors the same that are down there? Are there even 2?

I have a 2011 Pilot LX. Was it a relay or air mix motor? And how do you access it? Did you ever solve this issue? I have a similar problem

Please call Honda of America and report this issue.

Please call Honda of America and report this issue 1-800-999-1099 Honda of America asked me to put this here. They have told me that they have no reports of this happening and it is happening to my 2010 Pilot too, mine has also quit for a while and now came back. I am currently traveling and have a Honda/Acura specialist looking at what they are calling machine gun noise and they are saying it is the stereo, I don't see how that could be however I am no mechanic.

did replacing the airmix motor fix this?

yes, it did with mine. There are two motors on the driver's side of the console. I would suggest pulling the seat and side cover and then see which one is being noisy. For my 09 LX the part number was 79260-SZA-305 and it is found under Electrical / Exhaust / Heater / Fuel > Rear Heater Unit as part #12. The other motor is #18.

I had this same noise and just received the replacement part. How difficult was the replacement process? I am prepared to remove the console, does anyone have steps or suggestions?

Did you end up replacing the air mix motor? If so, how did it go? Just started happening on my 2009 Touring AWD with about 200K. It makes the noise for exactly 30 seconds then shuts off.
