.. Hail damaged. How bad could it be, besides a few dings on the roof and hood?

Really depends on the hail storm. I've seen cars literally pulverized by hail and others where the damage is relatively minor and paintless dent repair will take care of it. When my wife's 96 Stratus was caught in one about 6 years ago, it required a new hood, roof, trunk lid - plus much of the trim.

YMMV

If it were me, I'd ask the dealer if I could take it by a paintless dent removal place like Dent Wizard or Dent Doctor and get an estimate. Their charge would determine if the purchase was really still a bargain.

[If the damage falls within the range these shops normally work with, I think you can feel pretty confident they'll do a good job for you, based on my personal experience with a newly purchased, hail-damaged car]
