Does anyone with the GPS navigation system know how
to get upgrades/updates? Just wondering. The maps for our
locality are excellent in Magellen systems, but reportedly
only have a few major highways in the Pilot NAV database.

I'm sure updates will be available to the map database;
just wondering if anyone knows how you get them.
The Magellan system lets you download them yourself from the Internet; I'd guess the Honda Pilot NAV makes you return it to the dealer for some kind of proprietary hardware/software upgrade. At a steep price I'd guess.

And, it solved the problem of "do we get RES or NAV?" Since the Pilot GPS maps are poor for us here in Kentucky, we opted for the DVD player (RES). Kids were happy with that decision.

(About a month and counting... delivery expected in mid-late August.)

Actually, upgrades come out each September and cost about $100.

The software and database is on a DVD in the Nav control unit under the passenger seat. The Honda website has a link (somewhere) to the place to upgrade.

I looked and searched via google and couldn't find any reference to it.
If you can find it, let me know, I'd be interested in reading about it.
Thanks!

Some DVD NAV FAQs are available as autobahn pointed me to above...

at http://www.hondacars.com/models/odyssey/faqs.html

I assume the NAV is the same as the Odyssey.
There's not really much info there, though.

AHA! The map coverage information is available at
https://esales1.alpine-usa.com/dos/honda/cover_areas_honda.htm
which I didn't notice before (you have to go to the DVD upgrade order page to see that)

As I think I found before, coverage in Kentucky is limited to Louisville only. Other GPS systems cover the entire country a lot better than this. Oh well we got the DVD player for the kids instead (RES).

More DVD NAV GPS info.

can anyone confirm that this is the one in the Pilot & Odyssey?

This is a review of the system... be sure to see the Feb. 2002 update at the bottom. He recommends waiting until the system is upgraded unless you live in an area that is already well covered.

No the same.

While Alpine makes the Acura hardware, it is different from the models that you linked to. One big difference is that the Honda/Acura systems are touch screen based.

While the source of the maps is the same (Navtech), the current S/W revision for the Honda system is 2.05. It is expected that the detailed nationwide map referenced in the article will be available to all Navtech-based systems this fall.

Yeah, but the only thing you'll be navigating is your couch :)
