The opening is probably too small to effectively prep, treat or sand away the rust. Blow out or physically remove any debris buildup and perhaps squirt some WD40 on the surface and close it up.
Nope, nothing internal or that can be damaged was exposed. I would spray it put with air/water, replace the cover and move on.I wonder if there was any exposure to internal transmission components due to this cover missing?

btw, fluid drained looked really dark at 100K on the odometer. I believe it was changed since there were signs that drain bolt has been cracked before. Normal amount ofsludge on the bolt magnet
Indeed kind Sir. 3.5qts of maxlife went in. Next time he swings by my house to get the brake fluid flushed, we’ll get another drain and fill done. Hopefully he’ll get a cover ordered by then. CheersSounds like it needs some MaxLife ATF. 😁👍
