Most likely. http://www.mcs-autoexchange.com/ caught onto the premium price in the States - so no bargins to be had here. With the extra shipping, the price will certainly be premium. Fortunately, for me, the word has not got out yet about them becoming available. The bad news is the one we wanted was not in the inventory so we will be waiting for production in October to get what we want. Add on shipping and we will be lucky to see it by Christmas. :) Fortunately, no hurry to have it until February when we will need the extra room for our guests.

Exchange Car Sales

So the Exchange Car Sales in Germany carries Honda ... that is outstanding ... I've been in all the wrong places ... all I've had to choose from were American makes, the best deal being Harley Davidsons. Unfortunately I don't ride Harleys .... Perhaps I will be putting in for Germany next ...

Any other military PILOT owners out there ?

Just got the first Honda Pilot delivered to Germany. Went throught the Auto Exchange in Kaiserslautern. Hassel free sale. (ask for Olivia) Prices were firm for all trims.($2K over MSRP) No nogotiating... They had 7 at the port and my wife and I opted for the Nighthawk Pearl Black EX-L RES. I wanted it real bad, so the dealer dropped $300 for taking delivery at the port in Bremerhaven. I took a 6-hour train ride and picked it up. It was the first one that E.H. Harms and German Customs had seen so everyone had to come out of their offices to check it out. I drove it nice and slow all the way back home and by the time I got home, the Pilot was broke in and ready for the long 4th of July weekend. Took it everywhere and what a comfortable ride. My grandchildren are visiting and they love the DVD system. It handles real well and there wasn't a lot of roll in the corners that I was expecting. The two tone leather interior is really nice and good quality. The gas milage is a little better than advertised at 25 Mpg on the autobahn.

It is weird having the first of a vehicle in a country (told that by customs... don't know for a fact if it is true, but haven't seen any yet.) and everyone was stopping to take a look at it. I got off the gondola at Rudeshime and walked to the car to fine nearly 20 people standing around our Black Pilot looking in the windows and talking about it. A guy even asked if I popped the hood, so I did... then he wanted to sit in it and I said that's enough we got to go... I can understand their curiousity seeing I bought this vehicle without ever seeing it before in person myself. When you first sit in it, you can't believe all the room inside although I will agree the thrid row is tight for us 6 foot frames. The kids fit well in the third row and I like how the back lays flat for cargo compared to the Envoy XL 45 degree tilt I saw earlier this summer, but the Envoy third row fits me very comfortably compared to the Pilot.

So if you are in the military stationed in Germany you can get the Pilots... not through AAFES though. The AAFES rep at the port said that AAFES will not carry them, because they are built in Canada and their rules say that the cars they sale must be 75% manufactured in th U.S.

Thanks drb0b0:

Need to come out and see yours. Got the same story from AAFES. They told me 68% was required here in Heidelberg. Had me believing that it had met the requirement and 70% and then congress disapproved. Wierd, AAFES could sell a foreign manufactured car from the big 3, but since it is a Honda - they have to meet the above requirement.

So how fast did you get it going? Understand it tops out at 109 mph. Won't go as fast as the Accord, but should be a lot more stable than my Jeep. Was bouncing along back from Garmisch in the Jeep yesterday around 95mph. Anything more is too unstable. No matter what - you still get passed.

Well, I am jealous. For whatever reason, they only ordered LX and EX-L. We decided to hold out for EX cloth so it will be a while for our order to come in here in Heidelberg. Keep me posted on the ride. Let me know if it fits in the parking garages okay? Wider than an ML320. How about one of those little German garages at home? Hoping the mirrors will clear the opening.

AAFES

That's a shame ... but I wasn't aware there was a congressional limitation on which cars they could sell ... I always thought it a monopolistic chokehold created by the Big 3. I purchased my Mustang from AAFES while stationed in Korea several years ago believing all the hype, but was invevitably dissapointed upon returning to the states at how non-competitive AAFES pricing really was. I sold the Mustang shortly afterwards. Anyhow ... glad to hear you have the first PILOT in Germany ... once the engine is properly broken in ... perhaps you can share how the PILOT withstands the true rigors of the autobahn ...

AAFES vs. Auto Exchange

It is wierd, but there is some relationship between these two companies:
http://www.mcs-autoexchange.com
and
http://www.encs.com

The second one is AAFES. The first one will sell the cars that AAFES can not get approved. In our case, Auto Exchange got the Pilot "contract." In the recent past, Auto Exchange had the Odyssey while AAFES had the Accord. They have since switched.
