I have a deposit on a LX. The price is $25,455, which is off of the $27,900 sticker. I think it is a good deal, but would love feedback. I don't think I need (or want) the extras that come with the EX. I like the EX, but local dealers are only taking $500.00 off on EX and I think I will be just as happy with steel wheels, a lesser stereo, average cloth and no roof rack. I plan on keeping this for 10-15 years.

Here's is my question- Any LX owners out there that regret not paying the extra $2K-$4K for the EX? Coversely, any EX owners thinking they would be happy in a LX.

I am getting rid of an Audi A6. I am pretty excited as the Pilot seems to be everything I want in a vehicle.

I love the site and look forward to getting the Pilot. Thanks in advance,:)

Welcome to the board, MikeB! :D

I'm very happy with the EX and have never regretted the extra $$$ for it.
Good luck in your search for YOUR perfect Pilot, LX or EX - It's still a Pilot and will be a joy to drive! :29:

Many of the extras on the EX can be purchased separately and added to the LX if you really need them. One thing that can't be is the power seat of the EX. With the discount the LX seems like a great price.

well you are saving alot of money considering that the ex is about $34.000 with tax (extra $7000) but if you are going to keep the truck that long get the EX, why so you can actually have more for 10 years.

With the LX you are missing these items:

Alloy wheels
Automatic air conditioner
3 Speakers and cassett player
Electric driver seat
lumbar support
2 Beverage holders
Top pockets on the rear seats
Tray activity on the second row
Security System
Remote entry
Auto off head lights
Leather seats
colored mirros
privacy glass
roof rails
Black rear spoiler

So thing with your hand in the pocket

good lluck my friend

My choice would be the LX hands-down for the $. You can go down the above listing item per item and all either are being complained about, replaced/upgraded, can be added later (and probably at less cost), or can be repainted. Well, maybe with the exception of the 3 built in cup holders; big deal! Off the cuff I would think that LX could be outfitted with aftermarket products that surpass the factory EX upgrades in both quantity and quality and probably still have enough folding money for several fill-ups at the pumps. But, you my friend must live with the choice made, just as I am with the one I made.

Two more things that are missing:
  1. Steering wheel-mounted audio controls
  2. Homelink remote system (for garage doors)

Yeah, it's about 1:40am over here on the East Coast. The wife is asleep so I'm online posting to the honda-pilot.org board and at the same time, instant messaging my girlfriend on AOL.... <img src="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kemosabe/smilies/lol2.gif">

Thought maybe he meant BACK rear spoiler?
But then... a FRONT rear spoiler wouldn't work either, would it. :bonk:

Thanks so far for everyone's input. Thank you to all for educating me on the features I did not know I would not get in the LX. However, I am a bit of a minimalist and think I will be happy in the LX. I will add window tint and upgrade the speakers, but the rest is not a big deal to me....yet.

Colorider - I have a good friend in Loveland who has a Pilot. He loves it. His is a fully optioned EX with DVD. I will call him Monday and see if he is a member of this group. :)

Black plastic door panels...

One other minor thing - the LX has black plastic door panels on the lower part of all 4 doors. (These help avoid door dings.) The EX has color matched panels. The only reason I know is because I saw my first LX a few days ago.

I felt the same way you did. Everything looked better on paper to me for the LX. I felt I could do w/out the power seat, better rims, etc. But then I went and looked at it. There definately was a difference to me and my husband hated the LX in terms of the looks. He said the rims were terrible and couldn't stand the black plastic strip that went around the side of the car. Also the mirrors are black insteac of the color of the car. These things along with the inside features convinced me to move on to the EX. Its all personal preferenced though.

Happy with LX

The big question for me (and Mr. Lex) was the power seat, and we're just fine without it.

The LX audio is worse than I expected though - that raised the speaker priority a good bit.

Looks wise, I couldn't live without the roof rack. Last LX gripe - the door trim isn't the same color/material/texture as the rear spoiler-thing, mud guards, side steps and door handles.

What are we talking about?????$$$$$$$$

$2000 for the additional features on the EX seems like a bargain. Are we leasing, financing, or paying cash?

I would also double check the fabric on the LX vs. the EX. I remember way back when I purchased my Acura Integra that the lower trim level also had a cheaper fabric/padding. I have a Pilot EX-Cloth and love it. The seat fabric is great (I hate leather especially in the summer when wearing shorts) and the padding is very supportive. Double check by sitting in both an LX and EX and see if you notice a difference.

Great stuff...

In my case, the pricing difference is $3,545 - $25,455 for the LX vs $29,000 for the EX with cloth. Those are the best deals I can find. I have a deposit on an incoming LX due to arrive in 2 weeks. What is weird is that the local dealers have lots of EXs around, but won't take more then $500.00 off. They are taking a lot off of the LX (which tells me these are not very popular) and it seems to me that $3,545 is a lot of $$$, especially when you are a cheap skate like me.

The input is great. I will go back to the dealer and give the EX with cloth another look and see how the seat build quality shapes up against the EX, as well as the other things mentioned in previous posts. Thanks for the input once again!

Mike

My wife bought my LX. I wish there would have been an EX available when she bought ours. It seems there is so much more upgraded things than the LX. We have already spent extra to tint the windows, get a keyless entry and I'm ready to break down and get the nice looking EX wheels. The stereo isnt all that great on the LX, I can live with it since I mostly listen to AM talk radio.

"Upgraded things" in EX?

Ok, not to be controversial, but my thoughts on the value of the "upgraded" stuff in the EX (particular to my situation, YMMV).

Automatic air conditioner - Toss up. I'm pretty good at adjusting climate controls :). and from what I've read here, the manual rear controls are much more intuitive and effective.

3 Speakers and cassette player - Toss up. I'd replace the EX version as fast as I'm replacing the LX, and get a lot better sound than the EX version for a lot less than Honda prices.

Electric driver seat - Minimal value. It's mostly a one-driver car, so it isn't a big convenience. It would be much more significant if the LX didn't have the up/down adjustments.

Lumbar support - Minimal value. I'm not old enough to have a bad back, I guess.

2 Beverage holders/Tray on the second row - Negative value. The beverage holder/tray makes the EX middle-middle seat less comfortable than the LX, for a trivial convenience. Maybe folks with bigger kids have a different perspective.

Top pockets on the rear seats - Minimal value. It's been six months and we haven't run out of space in the lower pocket and door bins.

Security System - Toss up - My insurance guy thought the immobilizer key was enough to get the discount. I've never had a security system, but I can see a system being worth the $265 price tag, for city-dwellers.

Remote entry - $175 - This is one I'd like to have, but haven't been compelled to add it.

Auto off head lights - Minimal value. I have jumper cables. :D.

Privacy glass - $200. Had to have it, but not expensive at all.

Roof rails - $250 (includes $125 "worth" of crossbars)

Color-matched rear spoiler/mirrors/door trim - Toss up. It's admittedly a matter of taste, but I like the black trim.

Alloy wheels - $655. Admittedly much nicer looking on the EX.

Upgraded cloth - Toss up. I didn't really notice the difference, and my wife's 1987 Civic LX cloth held up fine for over 150K miles.

Grand total value of EX (to me): $1500 (being generous). Is the $1000 difference a huge deal? No, but if I saw it sitting on the sidewalk I'd stop to pick it up.
