Hi -

I have had 3 alarm events occur in the past week. Using a Launch X431 Pro scan tool, each event is showing it was triggered by the "trunk/tailgate" switch. Question becomes which component to replace? There is the actuating switch p/n 74815-SZA-A01 that is located in the handle under the soft rubber cover that you use to open the tailgate. Then there is the latch itself p/n 74800-SMG-E01. Anyone had any experience with rear tailgate tripping the alarm and solved it by replacing one or both of these. The switch in the handle seems significantly more exposed to the elements than the latch itself. Any insight appreciated. Vehicle is a 2011 EX/L 4WD. Thanks

Before replacing anything you might try:
1) Verify the latch mechanism is fully secured to the tailgate.
2) Verify electrical connections at the tailgate are free of corrosion and that the connectors mate securely.
3) You could try shorting the signal which indicates the latch is closed. If you no longer get false alarms then the problem area is likely the switch on the latch mechanism. At that point you could see if it’s possible to clean the switch with some isopropyl alcohol.
