There is a 2008 Pilot for sale pretty cheap near where I live and the ad states that the VTM4 button does not light up.
What does that usually mean? Is his rear diff a toast so FWD only?

The light in the switch or the light on dash? Does the seller know you have to be in 1.2 or R for it to work?

Just a guess here, but perhaps the seller doesn't know you have to shift into 1st, 2nd or reverse gear before you press the VTM-4 button and it lights up.

Edit: Rocky beat me to the post by a fraction of a second, LOL.

Use it to your advantage that it’s broken and get it cheaper. The bulb could be burned out or they don’t know you have to engage the certain way. Take it on a test drive alone and engage it yourself to test.

It's already priced rock bottom. I will of course go there and play with gears, just wanted to confirm.
Yes, he says that the light in the button does not glow yellow when you depress it.

Ask for service records. Bring your OBD2 scanner. Could be a good deal.
