I'm about to lose more than just a 10mm socket. There's not enough room for universal swivels, a socket, my fingers, a crescent wrench. How am I expected to get this monkey off so I can replace the oring?

  1. Edit: after cracking the plastic inlet joint and pulling the metal one off my unused pump without a pulley, I can confidently tell anyone interested in working on their power steering that it's easier to take the pump out than to remove the inlet bolt. Save yourself the anger and eternally lost sockets that can't be fished out with clothes hangers.

Welp, cracked the inlet joint and can't find one online.
Gonna burn it and file a claim.

Forgot I had a brand new pump with a metal inlet, I'll just replace the oring on it, new reservoir I've been holding on to and new fluid. Done fighting.

I had to remove the mounting bolts holding the pump and move it to get to the inlet elbow bolt. I don’t know how you could get it out and back in any other way.

Now the question becomes, how do I, as an amateur, remove the pulley?
I'm losing my mind. I really don't know what to do.
I'm buzzin', I'm jammin', I'm clueless.

I'm irate. The tensioner nut got lost in the abyss during my attempt to change so I have to run to town to find a compatible nut. None of this going smoothly.

Your festering frustration reminds me of my own on occasion.

Went to the hardware store and got another tensioner nut. Replaced inlet joint on old power steering pump with the joint from the new one. God, please protect my new nut from the bottomless pit.

Let us not forget what the late great Tom Magliozzi would have said about this situation..... "If it falls off, it doesn't matter.”
