My 2016 Pilot Elite does not have a dipstick for the transmission oil. Internet research reveals that the tranny oil can only be checked by the dealership. Has anyone found a work-around so a shade-tree mechanic can do it himself?

No, it needs to be at a narrow temperature and need to follow the procedures. This transmission is sensitive to fluid level being correct.

Unless there's a leak or a transmission removal, there's no need to check / fill the fluid, until your vehicle computer advises to change.
