Anyone tried out the Homelink feature yet? I just did and it worked great. I was able to program both my new and older (10 yrs.?) automatic garage door openers to open via the Pilot Homelink buttons. No more fumbling for the remote - love it!

I have an Overhead Door brand opener with rolling codes. Here are the instructions found on their website:

http://www.overheaddoor.com/Product.aspx?pid=228

They worked for me (and I found the extra details helpful), though I couldn't get two different doors to work on different buttons until I also looked at the Honda instructions, and realized that the "hold both buttons" part was to erase the memory, and thus shouldn't be repeated... :)
/Thread Drift ON-- WWongs pads are a necessity. The pinstripe I could do without. But for gosh shakes, a silver pinstripe won't cut it. It'll clash with the tan interior. Gold Pinstripe, if any. You woudn't wear black socks with a brown suit, now, would you?:p --Thread Drift OFF/

Worked fine for me in 2004 holding the two outside homelink keys to clear my prior opener programmed, then pressed the remote and homelink key simultaneously until blinked, then pressed learn button on power head, then held homelink key a few secs, 2nd press and it was done. They all pretty much are the same.... Overhead, Craftsman, Liftmaster, and I've had all three program the same way the 1st time around. :8:
I'm glad yours worked. To be fair, I never said I was talking about yours. I only said with MY garage door the Honda instructs did not work.

Curiously, my Passat's homelink DOES work per Honda's instructions. But, the Pilot requires all sorts of crazy combinations and permutations to perform the same thing.

Bottom line, it is programmed and all is well.

It really is an easy concept no matter which brand opener or vehicle you are dealing with, but I'm confident enough, and actually prefer a little more difficulty and don't consider the Pilot or Accord's 3-4 max button pushes crazy combinations.

I'm happy for you. Please pat yourself another time on the back.:)

We all need a little more difficulty in our lives. Especially when trying to configure devices that make our lives easier.:1:

To continue the drift...

I've given this a little thought, because I could see how gold would look nice. I saw an Expedition the other day in a similar color, and its gold stripes (1/4", a 1/8" void, and 1/8", I think) looked really good. However:

1) I've already got silver/chrome on the front grille, emblems (I am not inclined to invest the time and money to change them to gold), light housings, on my exhaust finishers, wheels, and am planning to put the chrome tape from wwong on my running boards. Furthermore, the dealer's logo (which I'm not enthralled with, but don't want to remove) is gray. Isn't that enough to coordinate with? Would gold stripes, by themselves, clash more with all that silver/chrome?

2) How much can you really see of the beige interior when you are looking at the car from the sides (which is where you'll see the pinstripes the most)?

3) The interior has silver (or maybe "gunmetal") trim inlaid with the beige, and it seems to look fine.

(Which raises another question: The beige interior seems to have silver trim, while the grey interior seems to have gold trim. Does anyone know if the trim is actually a different color, or if it just looks different because of the surrounding color?)

I wouldn't mind a little darker shade of "silver", like the aforementioned "gunmetal", maybe even "pewter" (though I'd like it to be bright enough to make an impact). Would that help?

I really would appreciate everyone's input on this. Feel free to PM it to me if you don't want to go further off-topic here. I didn't mean to sidetrack the discussion (though it sounds pretty played out at this point), but I guess that's why we have our Pilot details in our signatures...

I thought I should post a reply on this old thread so as to save someone else some anguish and curse words.

After messing around trying to program my homelink to my new overhead door brand opener, frustration set in and curse words flew. Not being totally clueless I had the procedure in hand. After failing multiple times to just get the darn homelink to accept the signal from any of the three remotes, I resorted to the computer and went to the homelink webpage. Hell....they got a video online of the same procedure for any car with homelink...same as outlined in our owner's manual. No FAQ about the pilot. Called the 800 overhead door number and got nothing literally but a click and hangup twice. A few punches into the headliner didn't seem to help....well maybe a little. This went on all day. Reset that sucker so many times!:D The video did help to show exactly how the homelink will react with the indicator light when programmed successfully. Thus saving trips to the opener to press the learn button when the homelink unit hasn't captured the signal.

The solution:

Switch the freaking frequency on the remote control from 315 to 390. Bam! Programmed in the first try. Overhead door remotes have a switch on the side that allows you to change the frequency of the remote. The opener can see which ever frequency. Appearantly the Homelink cannot see the 315 from Overhead Door and probably Genie too.

Mine works fine.
I had to clear the existing codes though.
Hold down buttons 1 and 3 for 20 seconds.

Then press and hold your existing remote and the desired homelink button until the homelink light flashes and it should work.
Just bumping this thread back up to say thanks for the simple instructions! They worked perfectly! We bought our Pilot a few months ago and I hadn't bothered setting the homelink because it looked difficult according to other posts I had read. However, it was extremely simple and only took a second! Thanks!
switch the frequency

@ John M,

THANKS! that did the trick, with a Genie rolling code door you must switch the freq. to 390...The opener came with 2 remotes, one has a tiny switch on the side to switch the freq.

Was pulling out my remaining hair with the same frustration as everyone else, switch the freq. and it works first ry.
