mmanu is right. It took me a while to get the sequence just right, but if you read the manual and follow EXACTLY, then it works. I think I took a shortcut or two before I got it to work.
(have to hold ours down for ~2 seconds before the garage opens now, but it has much more range than the standard opener did!)
