Hitch Mounted bike rack(s)

Curious what the size of the receiver is on the Honda-accessorized trailer hitch.

We are planning to use a hitch-mounted bike rack on our next vehicle (Pilot perhaps) and I'm currently checking out aftermarket (Thule/Yakima) hitch-mounted racks.

Do you know if the Honda-accessorized trailer hitch has a 1 1/4" receiver or a 2" receiver? I assume that since it is a Class III hitch, that it would be a 2", but you know what happens when you assume.

Thanks,
Rob

Class III is 2"

It is a 2" hitch. Same as on the MDX.
Any recommendations out there as to what hitch mounted bike racks are good? I want something that is very sturdy and doesn't blow around in the wind and holds 4 bikes.

I see Honda has one but I question if it is a really sturdy one for the price.
I like Thule

But others like Yakama.
Thule and Yakima bike racks

Yes, I've had good luck with Thule products too.

Whenever I've looked for car rack attachments (roof, rear or hitch), I've always received good feedback about Thule and Yakima. I've stayed with Thule for ski racks, bike racks, rooftop boxes, etc. because my roof rack is a Thule and wanted to stay within brand.

For a hitch mounted bike rack, I'll surely consider both of these brands.

I got myself a THULE Trailblazer hitch mount bike carrier, it will hold 4 bikes, has dual arms and zip stick for stability, has swing away feature to allow access to rear hatch, dual arms and zip stick fold away when not in use, it has integrated cable lock and a receiver lock. I'll be doing some biking this weekend to test it out.

Sure is a nice looking one...and the driveway finish is very nice too. Not the usual drab dull grey color, like mine. :D
Thanks, but it doesnt look as nice in person.....the driveway, that is. If I had my way it would have been painted long ago...maybe a drab dull grey.
Nice pics Borg. I've been contemplating getting the same rack myself. I didn't realize they stuck out so far from the receiver, most likely for spare tire clearance for SUV's that have the tire mounted to the rear. Is there any hope of just drilling a new hole in the post so the rack sits closer to the bumper?

There is definitely room to drill another hole in the post, just keep in mind that if you want to keep the factory locking pin the hole has to be threaded.

I just ordered an OEM hitch for my Pilot and as you say, it is a 2". The problem is that my existing Thule bike rack is designed for a 11/4" receiver. Any suggestions on adapters or other solutions so I can avoid buying a new rack?

How about this.
We have a Surco OSI, 4 bike carrier, that swings away. It is built like a battleship, and the bikes will not flinch when attached. It fits a 2" reciever. Check it out. We bought ours online, but I don't remember where or how much. I do remember it wasn't cheap.

Perfect. I ordered it. Funny thing is, I searched their site for adapter, bushing, receiver, etc. but that never showed up. Thanks for the link.

Now I'm off to install the hitch...

With a lot of Thule racks, the rack is multiple parts so you can buy a new piece that will fit a 2" receiver. This is what I did.
