the entire fluid capacity went everywhere. i tried to wipe as much as I could from what I could see but it went into every nook and cranny, all over the belts, etc. I am especially concerned because in the manual it says when refilling the PS fluid, be carefully not to spill any because it could damage engine components.

Yes, it can be damaging, especially if it gets into the alternator. If you have a lot on your serpentine belt and pullys, it can cause it to slip.

I would remove the serpentine belt and inspect or replace depending on how saturated it is, and clean all the pulleys. Hope the alternator survives, not much you can do about that.
