Help! No compression cylinder #5

Ok so any help here would be great. I'm a single mom, with a 2011 pilot. Always kept up with maintenance, oil changes ect. Yesterday I went to merge onto the highway and instantly my CEL started flashing and I could tell it was misfiring. Drove it to my mechanic, they read code amd said misfire on 5...they replace cpil and plug and the misfire would move around. (Not sure what that meant). I left the truck there. Today they said they did a compression test and all cylinders are good, except 5 has no compression at all. And bc there a small local shop there trying to figure it out and the next step is to check if my rocker is broken. Does this sound right? I'm so confused bc I all hear is $$ and being I just paid off my daughter's college bill I'm broke!!! Also to note it smelled slightly of antifreeze when he opened my hood. Although it never over heated and never has in the past. No rough starts ect..no riding different or funny sounds. The only sound I heard over this past month was a squeeling noise from what I assumed was my serpentine belt. Not super loud or crazy just mildly. Any suggestions??

I remember watching that cylinder head saga Eric O had to go thru at SMA, absolutely incredible!
actually nothing really wrong with 5w20 it was the original spec for Honda prior to 0w20 going mainstream.

Sorry everyone, I've really been going through it!
So both heads were sent out, replaced 4 valves. Mechanic also did the timing and components
After it was all put together it through a p3400 code. Replaced oil sensor on bank 1. Code went away. Now I'm getting cel and vsa lights and vtm-4. Says misfire cylinder 6, and also random misfire. Pilot runs good. But mechanic doesn't know what the issue is. Today he put in fuel injection cleaner and said to drive it. (I'm currently at work so I cannot drive it yet) I'm so discouraged it's been 8 weeks and I just got my pilot back, and now it's throwing misfire codes. Also I will note the cel doesn't flash, and the vehicle feels fine. So I'm Still trying to figure it out

I've looked Into the vcm controller (muzzler) and I'm going to purchase that. But I want my vehicle running right and perfect before I install it

Also, while he was reading the codes today, he said the misfire is barely there(notsure how he can tell that)

it seems like you've already spent enough time and money into this vehicle that it must be worth keeping at this point.
go ahead and order an SVCM device and while you're waiting for it to ship have the same shop or another shop go over the basics one more time. new spark plugs should have been installed and at a minimum the resistance should have been checked in ALL 6 coil packs and fuel injectors. also since these heads were stripped down then ALL the valves should have had clearances checked and adjusted as necessary. fuel system cleaner may or may not help but it certainly won't hurt. try sticking with the good ones, techron, seafoam, liquimoly, gumout (regane or all-in-one) don't get the others.
might even be worth while checking compression on all 6 cylinders again.
shop needs special tools to zero in on these misfires using real time live data streams.
at least you have new timing belt/ etc/ hopefully not some off-brand kit that will likely break in a couple years

certain scanners have the ability to read the up to date internal misfire counters for each cylinder. one or two misfires a minute is not as concerning as one misfire a second. with the heads removed would have been a perfect time to clean up the tops of the pistons and send the injectors out to be serviced

I did not ask about the spark plugs, I have to go back in the morning after driving it. So I will ask him. If the cel comes on again today after work, I am leaving it there tmrw I refuse to drive it until it's fixed properly. As of right now I haven't paid him, I'm at the 4500$ mark right now, roughly

I asked about piston rings, or if anything g was done with them
He said no

I'm not sure what type of cleaner he put in. He said he's going to put injector cleaner in it and to drive it, bc it sat for 8/9weeks. Also I seen him do an "idle relearn" on his computer. Notsure what or why

It makes me SO SAD bc it drives so nice, and the shifting I normally felt as eco kicked on, I don't feel as much. It rides great just now throws stupid random misfire codes

I know someone who was in a similar situation needing new valves, they replaced the valves and reinstalled the head, and the misfire was still not completely gone yet.

The problem ended up being that the machine shop never adjusted the valve lash before returning the heads and he didn't think to do so either. Once he adjusted the valves the problem went away.

Does a machine shop have to do that? Like if I want it checked again, where does it go..to the mechanic or machine shop?

It's the mechanics responsibility to make sure it's correct as he puts it back together.

I watched where the machine shop that was supposed to do the valve lash just didn't do it correctly, and he had to re-do several including #6. It is very likely the valve lash is off. Could even be a bit off.

The machine shop doesn't have to.

If you want it checked again, bring it to any good mechanic and they can do a valve adjustment. You have a little more freedom now that your car is mostly driveable again.

I would also find a new mechanic. Do some research before you go in to a new mechanic. Tell the new mechanic that your fellow Piloteers advised you to find a competent Honda mechanic to save the day. You need a mechanic that works on Hondas. Try to find one that is Japanese specific at least, if you can't find a Honda specific mechanic.

What area are you in? If someone here is around the same area, they may be able to recommend you a good shop.
