what's up steelblue! i'm from fremont...other side of the bay. anyway, other than just saying hey...i wanted to also ask for shops that any of the local folks here have gone to. i've been reading up on this 3m clear bra and have seen the link to xpel as well as the preferred installers. has anyone done this to their pilot using another shop? positive or negative experience? i'm looking to do this for my pilot soon.

Hey jay3 & Steelblue,

I'm down in Campbell (next to San Jose).

Yea, I had the X-Pel stuff put on my '06. I'm at work and my paperwork for it is at home. I think they did a pretty good job on it but it wasn't cheap! As I recall, I think it was $800 for the basic work (extended kit for the hood, headlights, fog lights, side mirrors, etc) plus they charged me an additional $100 to protect my body side molding (to prevent door dings).

The place isn't a brick & motar shop. They're mobile and come out to your house. It's two brothers. One lives in San Jose and the other out somewhere like Stockton! But, they do the work for high-end dealers (lots of Porsches and the like).

I guess you could say I liked the job since I later had them come out to do the works on my girlfriends '06 Civic!

And, if you're thinking about it, I'd do it sooner than later! The longer you go without it, the more chips you'll get :(.

I'll try to lookup their contact info this evening.

Later!
Larry.

hey larry how's it going man? if you can tell me the name of the brothers and their contact info, i'd totally appreciate it. i was thinking of spending 400 for this...but i'm willing to go higher if the workmanship is top notch as you mentioned. tia

Hi jay3,

The place that did it is:

CS Specialties
2980 E. Capitol Expressway # 50-325
San Jose, CA 95148-4246
408-476-3332

I paid $895 for the whole front end plus $100 for the body side molding.

There are two brothers, Mariano who lives in San Jose and Ken who lives somewhere in the central valley (Lodi?). They both are pretty good (and both nice guys), but, if I was doing it over again, I'd let either do the Civic since it's a much easier job. But, I'd specify that only Mariano work on the Pilot front end. Just look at some of the curves they need to fit on the hood. It really is a very hard car to cover with this stuff and Ken really has the touch for the fine details.

Good luck!
Larry.

yah - this subforum is pretty dead... I'm over here in the Sunset in SF itself.
What's up fellas! I'm over here in Modesto (the central valley). I go to the Bay area occasionally, my sister lives up there.

I lived on 44th by the zoo for 10 years. Nice quiet neigborhood except for the rice rockets and motorcycles running stop signs in the middle of the night.:3:
Nice of you guys to revive this thread.:)
I'm from the island city of Alameda.
Hello to one and all!!

Clear Bra

The guys over at Premier Mobile in Fremont did a great job on my clear bra for my 06. They are highly recommended by some of my NSX buddies as well. Mike Lee from Detailing Dynamics in Santa Clara also installs the clear bra and he is also highly recommended in the NSX community. Good luck!
Hey all. I'm still in SF as I have been most of my life. The City is still a great place to live! As for plastic bra, I thought about it but the cost benefit didn't seem worth it. I got a front bug deflector to keep chips off the hood. Now, if I had a Ferrari like my buddy, I would spend the money to protect my $150k baby.
I'm here up in Vallejo. Maybe I'll recognize one of your Pilots on the road someday.

I was wondering if any of you know of any good tinting places in the bay area? I'm picking up a new Accord today and want to get the windows tinted in the back similar to my Pilot...I was also looking into x-pel for it.
Sidney at "Auto Mall Tint Specialist" does an awesome job. He was a former Pilot owner as well. I believe his name on this forum as well as the NSX forum is "Litespeeds." He is well known in the NSX community as well and has tinted my brother's NSX. Tell him "Ryan1926" from NSX Prime sent you.

Maybe we all should get a HondaPilot.org sticker :18:. It's $6 in the HondaPilot.org store.
