I called up Honda of America and they can't give me straight answers on whether it's required or not. I will be towing 1200lbs max so don't need forsee needing anything extra super heavy duty. As a comparison, the Honda CRV can tow up to 1500lbs stock without any additional accessories. Any experience or comments is greatly appreciated!

There are several threads concerning this subject - been hashed and re-hashed, cussed and discussed. Many (including myself) feel it is not an issue as long as you are not towing a trailer that is quite heavy. I have towed a small (4 x 8) utility trailer with a motorcycle loaded all the way from SC to CO with no problems.

YMMV

Decided I don't NEED that large of a dual-sport and feel it may be better if we pick up a couple XT225's or DR200's for our off-road fun. :)

As much as I miss my Honda Interceptor 500, the wife would <img src="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kemosabe/smilies/2gunsfiring_v1.gif"> me if I bought a 2-wheeler right now (with two small kids, she says a motorcycle ain't practical at this stage in life  ).

I can see it now, me and her: <img src="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kemosabe/smilies/argue.gif">

Then me getting <img src="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kemosabe/smilies/angryfire.gif">

She responds with <img src="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kemosabe/smilies/eatme.gif">

And I end up looking like <img src="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kemosabe/smilies/shinner.gif">

Back to the topic...

I've got an 18' O/B aluminum bow-rider, that weighs-in around 2200#. This isn't the best picture, but you'll get an idea...

I went back and forth on the value of the Honda coolers ("value" isn't really a good choice of words), but ended-up purchasing a small cooler from here

I actually purchased 2, a really small tube-fin one for P/S

and a smaller stacked-plate one for the trans

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to install them yet. So far, my towing has been limited to taking the boat to and from a lake that's less than 2-miles from home (don't think I have to worry).

I've never considered towing my 2-wheeled Honda (a Goldwing) - I prefer to ride it to it's destination!

Installing the cooler is not the hard part...

It is getting off the "front" of your vehicle that is the PITA!

Those coolers look like they will work AS LEAST as well as the factory ones, but YOU HAVE to get in 'em attached to the "cool side" of the radiator and that is tricky.

Once you get the coolers installed you might also think about adding a tranny fluid filter. That should "bullet proof" the system...

The transmission cooler will help the transmission run cooler and longer whether towing or not. Especially in heavy traffic and mountains.

A worthwhile investment.

I personally don't understand why towing would put any extra stress on the power steering, so I didn't get the PS cooler.
