I notice that unlike the regular passanger cars, the dash board and the door panels are made of hard plastic instead of soft padded plastic on the surface. Are other SUV like this too?

I can't speak for all but I know the new Mountaineer/ Explorer hard are and the Toyota Highlander is Padded.

I do wish the Pilot's were padded, but they are very wide.
My last vehicle (98 Mountaineer) was padded but it was narrow and had the door lock button sticking up.
