MDX has nice finishers and a gold option...looks like will have to customize our PILOTS...If like that look...exhaust tubed curve down..who has the solution...I suppose I am seking a solution when I don't really have a problem..
When I get an opportunity, I plan on trying the Accord tips. When we traded my wife's Accord for the Pilot, I took the exhaust tips! I hate the dealer to have such things!
At any rate, looks like they'll work and look great but I've not really had the opportunity. See if I can do something this week and post some pics!
I wonder if the stock MDX tips would fit. They are about $75/pr.
It's probably the same or similar muffler. Will have to call Tim P. at HAW, maybe he can check for us.
NO TROUBLE LOCATING CHROME OR STAINLESS FINISHERS...MOST WORK 1.5 INCH TO 2 INCH....ONE BRAND OF STAINLESS IS NAMED AND STAMPED PILOT AVAILABLE AT ONE OF THOSE CHAIN STORES.....RAN IN TO NOTHING MORE THAN SLOPPY JERRY-RIGGING SUGGESTIONS AT TWO CHAIN MUFFLER SHOPS (USE OVERSIZED FINISHERS SO CAN TACKON AND CORRECT ANGLE BY USING THE PLAY IN THE FIT FRONT TO BACK)...ALTHOUGH ONE DIRECTED ME TO THE LOCAL SPEED SHOP THAT MANUFACTURES STAINLESS MANIFOLD SYSTEMS...SEEMS THERE OUGHT TO BE A QUICK FIX HERE.....PERHAPS CHANGE ANGLE OF THE MUFFLER HANGING OR CUTOFF THE TUBES AND REPLACE WITH CUSTOM BENT PIPING THAT WILL EXIT THE MUFFLER...CURVE DOWN AND STRAIGHT OUT PARALLEL TO GROUND....THIS PROBLEM- MAY HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY SOLVED BY HONDA AS SOME OF THE CARSHOW PROTOTYPE PICS SHOW CHROME FINISHERS ON THE PRE-PRODUCTION DEMO...YEP..I AM NOT A MECHANIC
WENT TO ADVANCE AUTO PARTS AFTER TODAY'S RUN/JOG/SLOG AND BOUGHT TWO OVALISH TO SQUARISH SHAPED STAINLESS STEEL( BRAND NAME PILOT) EXHAUST TIPS...PART PM-554 ...COST ABOUT $50 PLUS SOME TAX...0 DIFFICULTY LEVEL TO INSTALL...INSTANT GRATIFICATION AND I THINK QUITE NICE APPEARANCE...THE SHAPE COMPLEMENTS OR MIRRORS THE PATTERN IN THE BUMPER TRIM....THEY HAVE VERY NICE THREE BOLT ANCHORING SYSTEM(NEED 10mm SOCKET AND BOX WRENCH) AND THE FIT IS VERY SNUG EVEN ON THE TIP END....TRY THEM ON AT THE STORE BEFORE YOU BUY THEM...THEY HAVE SOME MORE MACHO OR HOT ROD STYLES...BUT THESE ARE QUITE ROUNDED AND... WOW WHAT A SHINE...OH , THAT ANTICIPATED OR PERCEIVED PROBLEM OF A RAKISH TILT OF THE FINISHERS WAS EASILY ADJUSTED FOR AND SEEMS TO BE A NON-EVENT...THIS REALLY DOESN'T LOOK LAME...ACTUALLY LOOKS OUT OF THE BOX...
Looked at MDX today...Those finishers appear to be chrome slip-ons and bolt ons-----they have round tips....looked like the tailpipe tubes exit straight from muffler while Pilot has a down bend...I remain satisfied with the non-factory Pilot tips....but there is a chance that MDX tips might work....Sorry for the shout....just a very lazy typist....
My local dealer has chrome tips on their demo Pilot EX...from the Accord V6! So, it looks like there are a few options. They also have the side steps mounted- very nice. And the chrome bumper accents- not so nice. Quite cheesy.
Check this out! According to another web site, Honda Part Number 08F53-S87-100 from the V6 Accord will fit the Pilot. It would be nice to see a pic from farther back. I don't see the bend in the pipe here.
When I went back to the dealer again I took a little closer look at these tipe they had mounted. They look too short. Also the bolt is pretty noticeable. Anyone thinking of these may want to consider the MDX ones. They may complememt the vehicles ride height a little better. The bolts more hidden on those and they look a little longer.
They are actually a little wider than the Honda ones and go straight out the back. They start from the muffler. The hardest part with installing them was making sure you tightened each screw slowly and kept the tips level. If you over tighten one side you'll get crooked tips.
A little patience goes a long way with this Pilot. (Exhaust tips, cross bars, air deflector.)
