I'm still waiting for my white EX-L to be
delivered....build date was last week. My dealer just
called to tell me that both of the CD changers are for
the LX only.

Can anyone else confirm this? And if this is true,
what is the likelihood of Honda making a CD changerfor the EX in the next year or two?

I really wanted a CD changer that wasn't in the trunk....

I think I understand your question

Your dealer told you that both of the CD changers are for the LX only? While I believe the "in-dash cassette deck" is for the LX only (EX already has one built into the radio anyways). To my understanding the "in-dash CD changer" probably won't work on the EX, but the "under passenger seat CD changer" should definetly work on a non-LX. While I would have guessed the "in-dash CD changer" would install fine on an EX-L in the spot used for the DVD player on a EX-RES, the installation instructions clearly show it being installed right under the smaller radio used on the LX. My quess is that it'd physically install fine....but the cables aren't wired up for that option. But that's just a guess..I don't have the Repair Manual in front of me. A clever technician could probably wire it up with some kind of extension harness...but it wouldn't be as per the Honda installation instructions. However, if you look at the installation instructions for the "under passenger seat CD changer", it clearly shows how to install it in a NAV and non-NAV Pilot. If this changer was ONLY meant for the LX...they wouldn't show how to install it in a NAV Pilot. I didn't study the instructions beyond that, but I think that's enough info for you to dispute your dealer. It COULD be the case that it will work in the LX, AND EX-NAV, but not the EX-L or EX-RES. So if I understand you properly, the "under passenger seat CD changer" is totally acceptable to you. I would restate your request to your dealer asking him to take another look at the installation instructions for the "under passenger seat CD changer". Good luck to you.

Note: When I refer to the installation instructions, I'm reading them (in PDF form) right off the collegehillshonda website.

Note: Hmmmm....looking at the instructions more carefully it looks like it's an "under driver seat" install.....not "under passenger seat" like I had be lead to believe. But either way....still sounds like it's what you want.

Thanks for your reply. I called my salesman back to ask about the under-seat CD changer, and he said that it's not listed under the EX in the official accessories book for the Pilot that they got this week.

So maybe Honda has a misprint in their accessory book? I'm hoping... I've got an email in to College Hills, maybe somebody there has a more definitive answer.

Some more info

I'm not 100% sure the Radio/CD/Cassette unit in the EX-L/EX-RES is identical to the EX-NAV....but I'd be surprised if it's different. The pics I've seen sure look the same. That particular unit (according to the installation procedure) has 4 connections (not counting the antenna lead). There are 3 VEHICLE connections ( 20-pin, 16-pin, and 22-pin), and 1 BUS connection (14-pin). For the "under driver seat CD changer", you need the BUS connection. I'm sure the BUS cable included with the kit will reach the Radio/CD/Cassette unit on the EX-L. If it didn't, I couldn't see it reaching the radio on the LX either. I guess it's possible that the BUS connection is already being used on the EX-L ....but if so...I'm not sure what for. I wouldn't be surprised if it was used for the DVD player on the EX-RES. I hope not though...as I have an EX-RES on order for myself. And even if it is used by the DVD player...maybe the DVD player will have two bus connections (in/out) like the "in-dash Cassette deck" has.

It's official...it works!!

A similiar thread was taking place on hondasuv.com. A Pilot EX-L owner successfully got the "under seat" CD changer installed just fine. Apparently the only reason they couldn't install the "in dash" CD changer was Honda doesn't make the proper plastic piece that surrounds the changer. That will probably change in the near future. Happy Piloting!!!

P.S. Tomorrow I take delivery of my Evergreen Pearl EX-L. WOO HOO!!!!

Good Luck WNY on your delivery tomorrow.

Once a good group of people start taking delivery of their Pilots, we should try and organize a Pilot get together or something. At least here in the Bay Area somewhere..

Just installed it myself

OK, I know it's already common knowledge on this board now that you can use the "under-seat" CD changer on non-LX Pilots...even though the dealers will tell you it won't work. Just wanted to state that I know it works first hand now. Just got done installing it myself and it wasn't a very difficult installation. Took me about 3 hrs, but I took my time to make it perfect as possible. The "access area" under the seat was designed very well for this install. After you see one installed, you'll look under your own seat and think that something is missing.
