Ok guys, before posting here I had contacted the local Honda dealer to get these questions answered. They finally got back to me, I was able to order what I needed, and no longer need assistance. The Canister does not come with the Vent Solenoid, and must be purchased separately. And the Purge Valve has a new P/N, 36162-5G0-A02.

 

Was the vehicle scanned for trouble code(s)?

 

The service manual says the rear differential has to be lowered to remove and replace the EVAP canister. As nail grease said, scan it for codes before replacing parts.

 

Hey guys, yes, when the emissions fault first showed up I took it to the dealership thinking it would be covered under the 8/80 emissions warranty, apparently though evaporative emissions are not covered under that warranty, evaporative is only covered under the 3/36. The dealer gave me the codes about six months ago when I took it in, I don’t remember what they were. I pulled them again this morning, P0441, P04DF, both evaporative faults. The dealer wanted to install the canister vent relocation vent kit, new solenoids, etc… for $1500. As I said above, I opted to install non-OEM solenoids and skipped the Canister. Apparently that was the wrong choice. So, yesterday, my new parts arrived, new canister, new purge and vent solenoids, all OEM. I have all the tools and the ability to replace the parts. I’ll post again after the parts are installed and the idiot light stay off permanently.

 

Start with the purge valve. Easiest to replace and likely culprit for incorrect purge flow.

 

I’m certain the canister is damaged, I topped off the tank for years before reading that it’s a bad idea to top off the tank on modern cars.

 

Did a new canister fix your evap codes?

 

So sorry, I just saw this! I still haven’t installed the new canister. After installing the other parts the code cleared and hasn’t returned in months. I’m hanging on to the canister just in case.
