Im buying a new engine for my 2009 pilot at the end of the week.

Engine price vary between honda model at local junkward.

Will a cheaper J35Z8 1500$(76k Km)be ok or do I absolutely need a J35Z4 2200$(135k Km)?

The J35Z8 is 700$ cheaper.

There are many variations in J35 engines over the years. You must buy the correct one for your model year, which is the z4. The z8 was installed in the Odyssey.
