There was a warranty extension for some 2nd-gen Pilots related to VCM issues. Here is a link:

I greatly appreciate the information. Unfortunately for me the error code on my latest Engine misfire was P0305 which from the sounds of it is not covered in that extended warranty. I would be interested in finding out why.

I have the same issues with my 10 Crosstour vibrations, growling, and I have de activated the ECO system with info from Verbatim regarding a VCM Muzzler but other than stopping the light from coming on the symptoms are the same. It feels to me that the lock up torque convertor kicks in too early causing slight lugging also have shudder under light acceleration but not all the time.

It is most disappointing to have these issues and not have Honda step up to the plate, I guess they're saving there money for air bag replacement!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I just bought used 2009 Pilot and mine does the same thing. My mechanic said he thinks it has a bad torque converter which basically means replacing the transmission. He told me to take it to Honda dealer for second opinion. They drove it and said it was bad torque converter as well. They said possible fix was to drain and fill tranny fluid 2-3 times. I did that and vibration went away and all was good for about a month...then it came back. I'm surprised I'm not seeing more people on this forum saying the dealer told them it needs transmission replaced.

The dealer said however that a diagnostics did not pull up any codes. I took it to a transmission specialists after the drain and fill and he said he didn't get any codes and thought it drove fine and would not recommend a transmission replacement...but to bring it back if vibration started again. I made appt with him for this week since it came back. I will keep posted here of what happens next.

I should have just leased another new Chevy Equinox like I was going to. I leased a 2014 for 3 years and that thing was great. Thought to myself...I'll buy a Honda...they last a long time and I can get out of car payment in 2 years. No such luck. What really ticks me off is my mechanic and Honda dealer all said the dealer that sold me the car had to known of this issue when they put it up for sale. Unfortunately, I didn't notice the vibration on my test drive....

Sad sad sad

I've been suffering from the same issue for a long time. I am driving 2010 Pilot 2WD. It ran 63000mi. From 50k mi, I feel severe shuddering at 40-45mph. I replaced trans fluid and put two tubes of Dr. Tranny and found it's running perfectly normal.

From 60k mi, a different shocks and shuddering is starting esp. when accelerating after slowdown. The trans hesitates and jumps all the time.

Last week, I drove down to Carlsbad from SF and back. It's about 900mi round trip. All the way I can feel very annoying shocks from the bottom of the driver side. Definitely it's not related with shifting. I can feel the vibration and shocks even cruising.

So I've put my car in service at Honda @ Concord, CA today (The diagnostic fee is $150??? $150???) and they called me twice saying they've tested it twice by two other technicians and found it seems like wheel balancing issue. OMG. I told them it's been over 1 year I've been with this issue. They think I can't tell the difference the vibration from unbalanced wheels?

Anyway, I'm on my way to testdrive it with them. I don't know what I cope with this frankly. I felt so nervous and dangerous to drive this car esp. in a long distance.

Sigh~

There is also another tool call the S-VCM that a guy recently brought out. I've been reading ALOT on this VCM issue. Unbelievable how poorly Honda is handling such a serious issue. It would be great if there was an ON/OFF button for the ECO mode instead of these hacks on the ECT voltage measurement.

Two good links for the S-VCM vs other VCM hacks:

This is a pretty long string of posts (40 pages) & I'm only half-way through reading them, but these vibration issues sound to me like classic torque converter rumble (Hydraulic Clutch). I had these same issues with my Gen.1 Acura MDX (also Honda). This was before the complicated VCM system or ECO-whatever. My theory was that it had something to do with the overdrive system / TC Lockout which would eventually fry the TC. We (MDXers) called it the "Highway Rumble Strip" noise. I went through 2 Clutches in 95,000. 3rd clutch I drove in "D4" (only uses gears 1-4) trouble free for next 100,000 with regular DW-1 fluid drain & fills. My 2011 Pilot came with the older Honda Z-1 fluid and I've only drained & filled with DW-1 once. So I probably have a 60/40 mix of Z-1 to DW-1. Planning to do an extra D&F in a couple months.

So again, I haven't read through all these posts, but if VCM is the culprit & causing the vibrations, wouldn't a system like the "VCMuzzler" solve the problem? Supposedly this product disables the VCM (or fools it into not kicking in). So without VCM you would theoretically not have vibration? (with a healthy torque converter of course...)

2011 Pilot Touring with 73k miles. Misfire and loss of power in Oct'17, 2nd occurrence in January'18. Spark plugs and seals replaced under warranty. I bought VCMuzzler and installed it. I will say that I'm noticing a much bigger loss in efficiency than advertised. I was getting 16+ mpg in mixed driving, but mostly city, now I'm getting 13 mpg, so I'm refilling my tank more often and only getting 220-250 miles between fillips. I was getting 290-310 before.

I'm trying to decide if I should keep or sell this pilot as the extended warranty for misfire expires at the end of June. I have not had the re-ring service done as it requires another misfire code.

My 2015 only has 45 k on the meter and it was doing this since day one . Dealership told me it was nothing and changed out the two front tires. I'm about to bring it in again this time and see what those minions will say this time.

I am thinking about the Vcm trick hopefully it may fix the problem. I have the extended warranty on this truck but reading
on about others having issues only at 80k ish... Makes you think twice . I have two Gen 1's one has over 200k and now its starting to have issues. These Gen 2's are garbage and it looks like the Gen 3's are just as worse for the build quality Honda once had. Just my two cents.

Just received a '10 Pilot and CEL was on day 1 I got it. It comes on and off though, got it checked out and misfire in cylinder 1 and 3. But it would drive fine when accelerating, I've driven in cars with a misfire and it doesn't feel like one. After the CEL went off again I noticed it only rumbles like a misfire when eco mode is trying to do its thing. Just put an order in for the DIY VCM Suppressor, pretty good with a soldering iron. Hopefully this fixes it.

I have the vibration too, and have eliminated the VCM as the cuase, as I 've had the suppressor in for about 1 month. I also have brand new tires, road force balanced, and issue still occurs. I agree with the rumble strip feeling, although it isn't all the time, and only on light throttle input, at the moment. I have a 90day/3000 mile warranty, and going to try to get TC covered if that is the problem, but don't have much time left!

Does the vcm muzzler stop this issue?
New owner of a 2009 Pilot with 107K. After reading all the posts about this issue and others I installed the VCMTUNER II, changed the spark plugs and installed new Michelin Defender tires. This did eliminate the ECO mode but not the "rumble strip" problem. No CELs. Vehicle runs great except for this issue. Hard to believe we have to live with this problem.
