This is the location where you install the optional engine block heater for those that live in extremely cold areas. It should only be removed when installing the engine block heater.

I used to have engine block heaters on my cars, but in this part of Canada anyway, I don't need one on the Pilot.

Maybe in Winnipeg. :)

So the block heater sits in engine oil, not antifreeze?

That's how I've always understood it. The antifreeze by virtue of its very existence and purpose, hence its name, is not supposed to freeze.

Yup, my bad. A block heater heats the antifreeze, essentially.


I was thinking of the old dipstick heaters my parents used. Those heat the oil.


Too much egg nog for me.
