Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, but is the Pilot a considered to be a car or a truck for the purposes of (CA) DMV licence fees? There seems to be some debate on this point between the dealers I've been talking to and the difference works out at about $100.

It's definitely a car, as are most pickup trucks (depending on use).
In MA commercial vehicles are prohibited from using certain roads and register by GVW instead of a flat fee.

Maryland

Just as another data point for another state... in Maryland, the Pilot is considered a multipurpose vehicle. It doesn't qualify as a truck. See below:
