I discovered yesterday that the paint on the silver trim piece on the console to the left of the A/C controls was "sluffing off." As far as I can tell, my right leg sits against that trim piece, and the few times I've been wearing shorts with sunscreen on my legs must have caused the sunscreen to work into the paint, making it peel.
The good news is that the pieces pop right off, and are individually orderable, so I'm getting a new one for less than $20. Pull gently out and up on the pieces beside the a/c controls to remove them, and make sure you have the console armrest open before popping those pieces off by just pulling them straight up.
The other option, which I did until the new piece arrives, was remove the piece and rub it down with a cloth soaked in rubbing alcohol, which easily removed the paint. The underlying surface is gray, and at least looks better (and feels better against my leg) than sticky, gloppy, peeling paint. I may just use the plain gray one for the summer, and the silver painted one the other 9 months of the year.
If you need to order those pieces, the dealer needs the 8 digit part number stamped into the back of the piece, and the interior color code, which is on a label inside the driver's door jamb above the striker plate.
