CarPlay for 2016 Pilot

Has anyone been able to add Apple CarPlay to their 2016 Pilot? For some reason, the 2016 did not have it but the 2017 and newer models do. I don't know if this could be as simple as a dealer performing a "software update" of sorts or if it requires more work, such as replacing the head unit. I would love to hear your feedback.

You need to replace the head unit.

Got my 2017 Honda Pilot black box a day early. Thanks UPS! Heres a quick video of the first startup. Glad it was successful. It seems my theory was correct. Everything was plug and play. Vin number doesnt need to be entered. The anti theft keyless entry is the actually module that gives the OK...

It is not that easy as I am finding out tonight. I purchased a replacement display for our 2016 Touring and I purchased one from a 2017 Touring. The wiring "plugs" are not the same. I have two extra plugs in the back of my 2016 unit. Not sure what to do now...

Sadly they don't make em as easy to swap things like radio/nav systems between years like they used to. They want you to buy a new car, not a new nav system.

I also have 2016 Touring and looking for a 2017 head unit….

Worked fine for me. My 2016 stopped working so I ordered another one from LKQ. The website said it was a 2016, but when it arrived it had a 2017 part number. Sure enough, it had CarPlay on it. Wiring was exactly the same, but I did make sure I bought the Touring model to replace a Touring. All in all it was a very simple install for me, though I've seen issues from others on this forum. My only challenge was finding the code to unlock it once it was installed.

My wife has been without a radio for a couple weeks now. Adding CarPlay was a nice bonus
