I've searched around online and all I can find for a maintenance schedule is basically "watch your maintenance minder on the dash". Is that really all you have to do is wait until that thing tells you something needs to be serviced? How else do I know when to do the VTM 4 or tranny fluid service, etc.

Thanks

All you have to do is watch the maintenance minder and it will tell you what service is required.
The section on maintenance in the owner's manual explains its function.
Have you read it?

The MM comes on, it reminds me to look at the last time I changed the oil. Everything else is on my own schedule. Basically look at what hasn't been done and how long it's been based on previous year model schedule and my doubling up on ATF drain and fills. I don't have the added burden of AWD, so a little less pressure. Of course, if you own a 9-speed, that's a different animal.

Try the attachment below. Should give you a better idea of what the schedule is. I hate the maintenance minder. It locks you into it’s schedule and you can’t reset items early. I use it for oil changes and that’s it.

You can also go to the Honda owners portion of their site and look up the 2005 Pilot maintenance guide to get an idea of the service intervals. That was the last year before the maintenance minder system came about.

The codes also protect you from over eager service droids at dealers trying to take you for unnecessary service needs.
This. I started getting emails from the 'Honda' and the dealership about "it's time to bring your Pilot in for an oil change." MM said oil life at 80%. Hmmmm, just trying to get me in the door. Even got a friendly text message from the sales guy.

If it's been 12 months since the vehicle was manufactured or since your last oil change, then those messages from Honda or the dealer would be appropriate.

Compare and contrast, as your English teacher probably instructed when assigning you one of your essays due Monday morning.

That's their job and they send those out to everyone. They don't actually know what your MM oil life percentage is. It's designed to get you to come in and get your car serviced. Nothing wrong with that.

Sometimes i just don't understand all the hate that dealer service departments get.

I know right? I actually have always had positive experiences with my dealers service department. Now their parts department is a different story. THOSE people are con artists who markup well above msrp. Strangely doesn’t seem to happen on the service side though… hmm…

The Honda e-store parts website will let you check parts prices at various dealers.
Some dealers parts prices may be as much as double those at others.

I don't go to my local dealer, but that's because i have a great relationship with a local independent shop. The dealer has done recall work for me and always done a great job, never an upsell.

I know we could just google it, but for laziness' sake and for posterity, post the link.

Like any place of business, you have good ones and bad ones. Nothing like taking your vehicle in to be fixed, pay a nice size bill only to have your engine light come back on a mile down the road.

Yeah and if you use the e-parts site you can get any dealer to fork over the parts at that price, but you still have to order online and it seems like they want to make you wait longer.
