I had to stop by my dealer last night to pick up my registration, and they had thier Red Demo Pilot out on the lot. It's got the bug shield, lower trim, and lower trim garnish on it. Taylor said the fog lights are on order. I wasn't so sure about the lower trim until I saw it last night. It looks pretty cool. Here's a pic to share!

Excellent pic, a2! I've been debating getting the bug shield on my red Pilot but wanted to see it first. It's still not a "must-have-immediately" but I expect that I will get in if we ever do a Group Buy for this accessory.

3M invisible nose mask

Rather then getting a bug shield that rattles, I would recommend getting a 3M invisible nose mask instead. It is a thick clear "tape" that covers roughly 1/3 of the Pilot’s hood. I've seen the product on MDXs, BMWs, etc. It does need to be professionally done and costs about $150. I'm getting it done this coming Tuesday morning. I'll post a pic or two in order to demonstrate that you can't really see the stuff unless you look REALLY carefully.

Bug Deflector

I have been wondering about these air (i.e., bug) deflectors. Has anyone used them? Do they work well? I find that I accumulate a lot of dead bugs in my grill and on my windshield.

Same question here

Evergreen,

We BOTH know how ugly bugs can look on a beautiful Evergreen Pearl Pilot. I had a ton on my hood and windshield last night. I had just spent $12 on the "more professional" drive through carwash the day before...so I just zipped into a "coin operated" carwash. I had the nozzle less than an inch from the surface of the hood trying to remove all the bugs when my time ran out. Of course, the change in pressure caused me to smack the nozzle on my hood!!!! UGGH!!!! Luckily it didn't leave a mark. Looks like I'll start using a "bug and tar" remover before I try the do-it-yourself carwash again. I am strongly considering the air deflector myself.

3M shield

gupt0014,

Did you ever get that pic of your shield yet? We'd love to see it.

Makes the truck look like a Rhino ... Perhaps good for some and not so good for others ... I like the clean look myself, but I am sure the wind deflector is very functional.

Out of Place ....

Also the chrome garnish on the lower trim looks very out of place since there isn't a single inch of chrome or polished material on the truck.

You know, I've been thinking more about the air deflector for the bug problem. It might help on the windshield, but I can't see how it helps in the grill. Doesn't it sit on the hood? Above the Grill?

3M Invisible Nose Mask

gupt0014

What is 3M's product name for the clear film? Is there a national chain that installs the mask?

:28: I saw a really poor installation job on a Volvo that left a lot of bubbles.

I am sure you can find out from the "Build your own" section on the http://pilot.honda.com site and add the accessories you want and it should show you the finished vehicle.

Of course, nothing like other members who have it, posting their pictures in the gallery section !

BC, this is one I would not try on my own because of the drilling AND the necessary grommet tool they list. It also appears if it is not pulled tight some people have gotten a whistle.

nhatcao, check out the foglight section as well as the other Air Deflector aye or nay threads. I have a few pics there where the deflector can be seen.

We just took our deflector off this weekend - it was a dealer installed option that we didn't want but took b/c we wanted the SS color.

There is no drilling involved.

We personally don't like it and unfortunately we didn't get any pictures.

Drilling holes

The instructions claim there is a "dimpled" area where you drill the hole. So it should be difficult to drill in the wrong spot. When I installed the backup sensors, it was like that as well. The hole marks were clearly marked. I'd be more concerned about finding the rivnut tool before you start. I'm assuming you can buy those from Home Depot or Sears..but wouldn't guarantee it.

Rivit nut tool??

Actually, I have one of those tools already. I even have the hood protector kit already. I am just waiting on the Pilot!!!!

My only problem is that my tool is SAE, and the insert is metric

I am hoping I can get a metric insert for my tool, or I might have to use SAE inserts and screws instaed of what came with the kit.
