BTA Connect VS Bluetooth Audio

Isolate the truck, like in a large parking lot, away from other BT signals and 2.4ghz spectrum sources.
Enable BT on the phone and let it connect as always.
Monitor and see if it goes to BTA connect - or does weird stuff as you described.

Mine only changes to BTA Connect when other vehicles or mystery radio sources are nearby. It's not the phone,
Pixel has a very robust BT stack. Also note there are certain BT hacking tools that can cause the same events.
Keep us posted?

On my 2013 to connect to play audio via Bluetooth I hit the Aux button until BT-A is displayed. however I have never seen track information show on the top screen or the small display
That can very greatly on the program pushing audio out, e.g., the "Tidal" music app (super-high bitrate, FLAC codec, 10x better sounding than Spotify) has issues displaying track info, artist, etc. But it sure sounds superior!

Never forget your music app was probably made by the lowest bidder.
