So I get this message every few days popping up on my dashboard. "AUTO ENGINE IDLE STOP SYSTEM PROBLEM". This is a very annoying message as it comes up at some times daily. I have taken to the local dealer and they have no answer.
The vehicle is a 2017 Honda Pilot Touring with no other issues. I now have about 8,000 miles on the vehicle and would like to know if any other 2017 Honda Pilot owner have the problem or remedy to our problem. If you manually turn off the Auto Engine Idle System I still get the message. Thanks.

A good 25% of the cost of the car was for the comfort and peace-of-mind that the dealer will fix everything for you during it's initial growing-pains years. Call your Dealer service desk, schedule your service appointment, and let them do the magic that you've already paid for.

Just a thought...

Can I ask if any of you have had the stall problem on your 2017's or 2018's?

My 2016 Touring stalls many times when I take my foot off the brake after the Auto Idle Stop has kicked in. It is a scary problem since it could leave you in a very bad place and unable to just go. You have to completely restart the car. But I don't know if the problem exists on 2017's or 2018's?

My car will have been in the shop for 3 weeks this Monday for this problem...

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? Our 2016 touring elite has cut out on us several times, once we were almost plowed by a big rig thanks to this problem. We have also taken our pilot to the dealer several times who could not repeat the issue and claim that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. I hate it but we are contemplating trading the vehicle in before we get hurt

Hi. I have a 2016 touring. Drove it off the lot. In 2018, I had same issue with it stalling. By 2019, it would actually shut off and I would have to turn the car off and restart before being able to drive. As the year progressed it got worse. I have now taken it to the dealer 4x and the problem has not been resolved. Under HondaCare,I've had the alternator replaced as they thought that was the issue. Recently they thought it was the battery. I'm at almost 120k now and am fighting with them to cover the issue once it's found.

I've been having the same problem without sufficient resolution. The people at Ourisman Honda in Bethesda said they never heard of this and couldn't fix it unless they can recreate the problem. The gave me a new battery and reset the computer, but the problem persists. I filed a complaint with NHTSA and suggest everyone else here do the same!

We just get into our pilot and startup...first thing before putting in drive is to hit the switch to disable the idle stop system. Gets to be a habit, like putting it in gear.

And idle stop works without the starter motor...the engine is stopped with one cylinder at top dead center with fuel/air under compression. When foot off brake or steering wheel moved the computer fires that cylinder and then engine is running. Have you heard the difference between a cold start and an idle/stop start? Very noticable. But I still don't use it.

Did they ever figure out the issues
So we just had our 30k service on our 2018 pilot and have had this happen three times since - the engine cuts out when we press the gas after it has gone to an idle stop. Anyone figured out what can be done about this?

Yes, don't use it. When you get it after you start the vehicle push the Idle Stop system button to turn off the feature. Problem solved.

Instrument cluster indicator to show the system has been stopped.

Nope , Honda knows it's a problem and they dont want anyone to know so they play stupid. They say" we cant get it to replicate issue" or" no one had ever report this problem".. I sold it and I'll never buy another Honda . I bought 5 cars from Autonation 4 of them New Honda's since 2007 and I've 5 Honda's since 05. I know a guy who got it fixed and they had to replace the wiring harness. Everyone needs to make sure they report this issue. I've seen several post on here that the service dept says exactly what they say to me"no ones ever reported it" BS. It's as if they know what to say and have been told to say it.

I have a 2017 Touring with about 36,000 miles on it and about 2.5 weeks ago the car died after it was on auto idle and when I took my foot off the break the car completely died I was stranded in the middle of the street. The tow truck was able to jump the car and I was able to drive it to the dealership. The dealership has had it since and haven't been able to repeat the problem. I want my car back but I want the issue to be fixed. Sounds like that might not happen. Where would I report this issue to? I am about ready to speak with the general manager of the dealership since the car is still under warranty and I had terrible service when I called to discuss the issue. I love my pilot and didn't have any other issues until now. Any recommendations?
