Anyone use Michelin Defender 2 or Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus3 on their Pilot Elite?

  • According to Tirerack reviews, both should be quieter than factory Alenzas. But I really don't want to be bummed out if they end up being louder than the non-Trailsport tires.
  • Funny enough, both are also cheaper than buying the same factory Alenzas again. Both are similar in price.
  • So, Defender 2 or Scorpion AS Plus3?

I have experience with older versions of both tires. They are quieter tires and the older versions both performed well in rain and light snow. I'd have no problem running them again.

I believe we had the defender 1s on our 2010 Pilot. Didn’t last as long as my wife would like so the next tire was her favorite BFGs ATs which were far from quiet. We have the Michelin CC2 on our Ascent. Great tire and they have a new version out now I believe. I would consider that one on our Pilot. I do like the rugged look and may even consider the Falken Wildpeaks for both of our cars.

Ran Defenders on Chevy Silverado, GMC Acadia and Honda Accord. They are one of the very best all-season tires. Not one set out of about 6 lasted less tha 70,000 miles. Also need very little weight to balance. Run nice in snow and handle gravel roads. Great tire!

I recently got the AS Plus3 on mine. The tires are great on dry roads but not in the snow.
I mean they are horrible in the snow, and this comes from a lifelong Minnesota resident that's used to bad winter weather. I would turn, but the car would keep going straight. They are as bad as Bridgestone Dueller HL tires if anybody has experience with those in the snow. I ended up getting a set of used Pilot wheels off eBay and Michelin winter tires because I had zero confidence in the Scorpions.

My Cross Climates did 3-5” of snow in the mountains with ease. My only problems were the vehicles in front of me, not making it up hills. Only time my tires lost traction was when I wanted to have fun. Ratings are over rated! 😝
There is actually some very legitimate truth to this. Even though they are good enough to be 3PMSF, not all tire manufacturers care enough to give the rating. And there are plenty of tires that are 3PMSF rated that are still hot garbage in the slick/cold.

It's a really mediocre standard that we put far too much weight into

I had Michelins on my 2018 BMW 740i Xdrive when I bought it used, but Pirellis were a great bargain. They ride well, but on grooved freeway pavement, they squirm! So now - our Odyssey (ok, not a Pilot - it's the big sister!) needs tires. As stated above, it has had Defender 2s on it for 5 years. Excellent ride for 5 years. Seasons dry out any tire. Pirellis are $40 less per tire! Defenders anyway? Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 vs Michelin Defender 2

Defender 2s on our 2015 Odyssey still have excellent tread depth at 40,000 miles, but the five years of heat and cold and potholes in MI have aged the tire to needing replacement. Defender 2 or Pirelli AS?
