This annoying noise sounds a little different from some of the others posted and was wondering if any others have encountered the same problem...

I've had my Pilot for almost a month now and absolutely love it! However, after filling up the gas tank for the first time I noticed a strange knocking sound usually when I hit the brakes and come to a stop. It almost sounds like it is the gas swishing around the tank or something...it's strange how it started once I filled up the tank for the first time. If I hit the brakes hard and come to a quick stop I'll hear a noticeable **THUD** sound about a second after the vehicle has come to a complete stop. I have no idea what this could be, perhaps the spare tire, maybe the brakes need some adjusting  ?

Before calling the dealer I'd like to see if any other owners have come across this and what was done to remedy the problem. Thanks

My Dealer has addressed the problem by spraying TONS of undercoat on the gas tank, this has temporary damped the noise but has not solved the problem..

The only way to eliminate this is Honda will have to redesign the tank or put BETTER insulation to get rid of the very much talked about issue.

The tank needs baffles (or better ones). It will be interesting to see if the '04s do better.

The problem has some of us baffled. :D I experienced the same thing with the '01 Highlander that I traded in for the Pilot. My reaction when I first heard the noise in the Pilot--" that sounds familiar."

Why do these tanks slosh like this? I've never heard this with any other vehicles other than the Highlander and Pilot, even other SUV's with similar size tanks.

sound

Minivan owners call this the "falling suitcase" sound. It is quite common in many different brands of minivans also. It seems to have started when manufacturers switched to plastic gas tanks.

gopilot, I'm continually amazed at the length and the extent your dealer goes for you to try to resolve the issues you bring up to them. If the dealers here in Edmonton are as half as diligent and accomodating as yours, I'd be more than happy.

I get amazed alot myself, There is no nonsense at this dealer, anything that is a problem they 99% of the time replace with new parts.

They just replaced my drivers side mirror because it shacked to much on the highway.

They ordered a new AC pully to stop that annoying clunk or sometimes even grinding noise that occurs when you start up the Pilot with the AC on. (This part has been redesigned and that's why it is taking so long)

They also have fixed my front brakes do to another clunking noise that happens whenever I apply the brakes. They will be fixing the rear brakes next visit. (They found a shimmy in the brakes, I guess means too much movement, which is causing this loud clunk)

This is why I keep buying Honda's do to them being a great vehicle and also the outstanding service that I get at this particular dealer. When I received my survey I made sure I told Honda all about this little dealership in Terrace that provides up and above expectations.

I just wish this would spread to ALL dealers in Canada and U.S. No one should be treated any differently. It's sad because some people may not be buying Honda's in the future because of there bad service..

I heard a disturbing sound from the dash!

I was going on a normal drive on a normal day just cruising along when all of a sudden I heard a strange vibrating sound coming from the middle portion of the dash. The A/C was on and my first reaction was  and wondered if I had read this problem on a thread before. It was a rhytmic vibration that lasts for no more than two seconds then pauses for two seconds and alternated like that about eight times.
I tried changing the A/C settings, turned it off, pushed buttons left and right but nothing changed the sound. And then, it just stopped
Two minutes passed without the vibration and then it started back again. This time I was :3: It stopped again but did not repeat itself. I finally got to my destination (pick up the wife from work) and was surprised to see a  look at her face! Wait a minute, I wasn't that late:8:
She got in, closed the door and then asked...why didn't you answer my calls?!
I looked down at the center console and noticed my cellphone that was set on vibrate with the "two missed calls" symbol on the display:1pat:

After I told her my story of the newly discovered weird noise I got this...Mrs Jiaronnis-->:headslap:<--Jiaronnis

Yeah, for sure. The dealer I go to exclusively is not too bad, but I know, without a doubt that if I brought up the same issues as you did, they'd just tell me it's supposed to do that. And this is supposedly the best one in town!

It's really true though. I'd think twice before buying another Honda/Pilot in the future precisely because of that reason. I wouldn't go so far as consider the level of service given to me by the dealer I go to as giving bad service. But seems they have a reason and excuse to every issue I bring up.

That was a funny story. I discovered over the weekend that if I put my LG VX4400 phone in the holder, a button on the side gets pushed that activates vibrate mode. Hopefully I'll know what's causing that noise in the future. :13:

Hehe....

Had my own annoying noise. Thought maybe something was loose up in the headliner. Every time i made a turn at a decent speed, I heard something slide around. I'd keep trying to figure out where it was from exactly. I just figured it out. It's the cargo net in the storage compartment....hehe....aaahhhemmm....
