The Circuit City installers said they can't install my Alpine MRV-F340
amp unless I want to mounted to the back of the 3rd row seats.
Evidently I failed to notice how low the seats got when layed flat
and how little clearance there is under the 2nd and 3rd row seats
when they are in the upright position.

Since I have already used the space under the driver and passenger
seats, there is no place to install the amp - I have 2 car seats
installed and use the 60 split in the 3rd row for storage.

Does anyone know of some slim profile amps that will work
under the seats? What a about an amp for boats? Perhaps
I could mount one outside the vehicle someplace - underneath
someplace?

My amp fit just right under the drivers seat. I don't think there is a better place for it. Unless you mount it to the sub box like 91Octane did.

Maybe you could move the XM receiver to the glove box...?

What about in the hidden cargo compartment? Although this may mean that you lose the space for one or two of the 3rd row headrest/s. A good audio/video shop coculd make anything nowadays.

Amp Installed

Initially I had my Rockford Fosgate 700X installed in the storage compartment. As I learned that the the amp generate significant amount of heat in the compartment so I had to relocate the amp to under the front passenger seat. I didn't want to take a chance of burning out my $300 amp. At least this concealed location provides better air flow than anywhere else.

Had mine installed in Circuit City in the storage compartment....that was in January and no problems. Manager said Alpine's have great cooling system so that it should be any problems. I posted a tread on my install last Jan....there really is no space other than this to install it.....I use the small 3rd row seat down always, so I only need space in the cargo for 1 headrest, if I ever need all seats its a temporary thing, so I leave the HR at home.
My two cents....

I thought about the storage area. My concern with that spot is
since we keep the cover closed and have a rubber floor mat
over it keep the area clean from dirty stroller wheels that the
amp would get too hot.

It seems the best place is someplace where you have air movement.
Even if I installed a fan to blow air on the amp in the storage
compartment it seems like that wouldn't be enough.

You could use the class T type amps by Blaupunkt

"The PA2100's highly-efficient operation gives you two installation advantages: an extremely small footprint (mounts just about anywhere without sacrificing cargo space), and very little heat generation (fits in tight spaces without overheating). Thanks to the low operating temperature, Blaupunkt's designers can house this stylish amplifier in sleek, modern-looking, lightweight plastic."
