Alarm keeps going off in my 04 Pilot

Hello,

This is my first post but I have referred to this website several times in the past for assistance with issues I’ve had with my Pilot and always found the information here very useful.

In the last week my alarm has been going off randomly.

I had a look through past posts and tried disconnecting the hood latch sensor since they seemed to be a common cause of the problem, but that didn’t fix it. I checked the battery and cleaned the terminals and connectors.

I’m not really sure what to do next and would appreciate any assistance you folks could provide.

There’s a few things I’ve been thinking might be the problem:

1) My key fob has gone dead. It happened in stages over the past couple years. First it worked, then it would only close three of the doors automatically. Then two. Now none. I’ve read that this could be the cause of the alarm going off but not sure how to proceed. I bought my Pilot used from a dealership that was crooked as all hell and I don’t wanna go through them to get a replacement key. Rather light it on fire and drive it in the sea than give them one more dollar of my business. (Also don’t wanna buy a new key if that isn’t gonna solve the alarm issue). Can I/should I think about ordering one from Honda directly, or is this the kinda thing I need to see a locksmith about?

2) Is it more likely that the issue is a messed up sensor in one of the doors? I tried the troubleshooting thing I saw on another post about trying to shake the doors to listen but I couldn’t hear anything. Would I have to open up the doors to look for bad switches or sensors or something like that? I pulled apart the rear driver’s side door about a year ago when I had to replace the power window regulator and it seems like it would be kind of a pain the butt to have to open up all four.

3) The other thing I was thinking was that somebody said something on another post about maybe pulling the fuse for the horn or putting in a switch for that fuse, but I’m not sure if that would be harder or a good way to go? Was thinking I could switch it off when I park it, then switch it back on when I go to drive. Can’t seem to find which fuse controls the horn anyway. It isn’t listed in the fuse diagram in the manual.

Anyhow, thanks in advance for any assistance you folks can provide.

Shawn

Since you have had issues with doors locking, the door actuator is probably faulty and spontaneously unlocks setting off the alarm. The door locking/unlocking issue should occur using the door panel controls.

My 05 had an alarm issue especially when raining. Never stick around long enough to solve. Sometimes I’d just leave it unlocked
For the rear hatch
There's also a latch.

Take that, Shakespeare.

Thanks for the reply and the diagram. (The diagram in my manual didn’t show what those fuses were. Just left em blank and unlabeled.)

Is there a way to check if it’s definitely the door actuator? Like should I leave it locked and wait for it to go off and check to see if any of the doors have come unlocked? I don’t recall seeing any of the doors unlocked on the last few times it has happened, but to be honest I’ve been in a big rush to shut off the alarm and haven’t bothered to check.

Thinking about it I’d probably not prefer to put in a fuse switch since it’d be a pain to have to switch it on and off every time I parked. If there’s a way to figure out exactly what’s causing it and fix that, that’s the way I’d rather go.

Thanks again!

Shawn

My current low-tech workaround has been locking all the doors except the rear passenger side door and parking that side of the car about 4 inches away from the wall of the parking garage.

If anybody steals it I’ll know to be on the lookout for the skinniest man in the world.
