According to my dealer...........The Honda "security system" offered as an option for the LX (standard on the EX) only works if the doors are opened, and an add-on hood switch can also be added. It is all operated in conjunction with the stock horn.

As far as aftermarket alarm systems go I currently have a Viper system on my Acura Integra purchased and installed at Circuit City that works great. It is seismic so that it not only activates if doors are opened but also when there is movement/vibration (someone jacking the car up) or someone breaking a window for example.

We have a Silver Pilot EX on order which comes with the Honda "security system" and not sure if we'll upgrade to a more robust security system.

I have LX. I ordered it from Tim, and installed it myself.
It took 3-4 hours, but it was my first time. Instruction fairly good and I am happy with the alarm and remote entry function it provides. Cost was $280.
My dealer offer to install it for $50 (thru the back door) labor. My SIL took that route.

Ok just a few points.

The oem alarm for the LX to bring it to same specs as EX is not $280 from tim it is $330 parts. It is three kits, not two (don't forgeet the hood latch). My dealer will install all three for $485. That is $155 installation over tim's price. Or the two main componenets for $418 ($140 labor over Tim's price).

I am good with mechanics, have all the tools but looking at the instructions it is clear to me it will cost me more than $150 in time and frustration if I do it myself.

It is the only accessory install I would not do myself.

FYI the EX factory and the LX accessory alarm are identical and BOTH have glass break sensor.

Correction/clarification: The EX factory alarm, i.e., the one that comes standard with the vehicle from Alliston, does N O T have glass breakage sensors... :)

ok i will take your word for it. I understood that the units were identical. This info was from honda service person who does electronic instals at dealership, not from a salesman. He told me the box had the same part number and even how to ajdust glass sensativity. If i am wrong sorry.

Geo: Would you mind if I asked a question?

What were the steps that the service tech gave you for adjusting the sensitivity of the glass breakage sensor? :8:

I'm 99.9% sure that the EX (at least for the 2003 models) doesn't have the glass breakage sensor, but I'm willing to see if I can adjust the glass breakage sensor if I do indeed have one on my Pilot... :)

kemosabe,

I understand in the 04 lx optional oem the main alarm control unit is installed in the left (driver) side kickpanel and that there are a couple of switches and one dial. the dial adjusts the glass breakage sensor which is also right on the main control unit.

Perhaps you want to give your service center a call to confirm before removing any interior trim in case I am wrong.
