It's time to do a timing belt. I've had 2 Odysseys and my Pilot (as well has helped a friend or two), so I've done a few of these. In the past, I've always used the Aisin kit, but for some reason it's just not available at the moment. I can't find anyone with them in stock. I've found a couple of sellers on eBay that have them, but at a price of $240 and up, compared to the usual RockAuto or Amazon price of ~$170 if memory serves. And as an eBay seller, I'm not sure I can trust that it'll be genuine.

RockAuto has the Continental kit (Pro series, not the economy one) for ~$225. I've used Continental on other cars, as has my mechanic brother, and they seem to be pretty good. Of course, there's the usual Gates, ACDelco, Dayco, etc. which I normally wouldn't even consider. I could go to the dealer, but that's just too rich for my blood. I could get the Aisin water pump and buy the other parts separately, but if so, which brands?

So, if you were doing a timing belt and couldn't get the Aisin kit from a reputable seller, what would you use?

I've never used any kit other than Aisin.
I've never heard anything negative about Continental or Dayco.
Not a fan of Gates. I've witnessed an early water pump leak.

Some times you’re better off just paying more. This maybe one of those. I’d hit up one of the online OEM Honda dealers and buy it there or from the eparts store and pick it up at your local dealer. If you really must save money I’d consider a continental belt and a Honda OEM tensioner as the bare minimum to do the job properly. The water pump will likely last or if you can get an Aisin one separate that’d be fine too. The idler pulleys you can just inspect and keep running and they’ll probably last quite well too. Basically I’d trust used and good OEM parts over some of the junk that makes it into some of the kits. Realistically only the belt and tensioner have an extremely high likelihood of causing you problems…the rest can probably run another 5-7 years…. Though not ideal.

One left right now.
Thanks for the heads up. They were gone earlier today, and every time I've looked for the past week or so. It says "used-like new", but I'm thinking that just means it's a return. I ordered it, and of course I'll check it very closely to be sure the parts are new.

Sorry, didn't know it was used. Yes, inspect closely.

I used to work at amazon and those "used" items being sold are either returned from a previous person who purchased it OR an item that was received as damaged or got damaged inside the warehouse. the items go through a "grading" process to assess the "damage" before it is given a "discount" and put back up on the site for sale. when you get it you will notice a barcode sticker with LPN and some numbers as the unique identifier from the grading process.
best case is the box just got damaged and everything inside it is in perfect condition. this happened to a surround sound system I bought a couple years ago, 200 dollar discount o_O

As of today on Amazon...

Still thinking about it or did you go with another choice? Or did you return it, too?
