So are deflectors good in keeping the hood and windshield clean? Or do they just ruin the clean line of the car?

Who has one and is happy with theirs?

Re: Re: Air deflectors: aye or nay?

What about other accessories ? The only thing I have on my EX-L are the running boards. I definitely have to get the rear-splash guards and perhaps the all-weather-mats but beyond that what do people think about accessories. Not many have posted pictures yet. I am one of them too. Will do so pretty soon. Don't have a digital camera yet but should be able to get some nevertheless.

And any chance you can you post a couple of pictures of it? In my weakened raid-the-college-fund-I-want-me-some-cool-Pilot-accessories phase, this is definitely on the radar :4:.

I haven't seen any. I've been using the Honda's "Build Your Own" site to get a good idea of what it might look like.

No excuses here, I have a digital camera, but haven't posted any pics yet :(.

It's Father's Day on Sunday, I may just spend it with me, my digital camera, my Pilot, and, OKAY, my kids!

I have an air deflector on my Taco and I have to say it has made a noticeable difference in reducing small chips on the front lip of the hood. Noticeable? I didn't have one for the first year and have about a half-dozen little nicks. Added the air deflector and I only count 1, maybe 2 in the past 5 years. And I drive down dirt/gravel roads every day to work.

If you didn't want the 'look' of the air deflector, you could opt for the Clear Bra (or another similar product).

Already a nick...

Well, I passed on the air deflector...didn't really care for the look. And this morning, I'm out removing the dealer front plate and what do I see? Yep, a nick.

It's minor, but it's only been two weeks -- guess I got it on the gravel road to my kid's camp open house yesterday.

Think I should put on a smidge of touch-up paint, or will that look worse?

From the sound of the Zaino testimonies, I think that I'd try their products first, Diane. One one them is meant to eliminate scratches and swirls - it might just do the trick on the nick (or lessen the need for any touch-up paint).

Re: Already a nick...

I have small (really small - not seen easily at all) nick on top of the right rear passenger wheen. I had asked the dealer and the salesguy said that he will get it buffed and waxed and it should go away, but not surprisingly it hasn't. I complained and he gave me a bottle of silver touch-up paint which I have to admit, I have not attempted doing yet. But I might apply a really light coat of it one of these days.

Is that howling sound coming from the deflector?

I test drove an EX two weeks ago and the wind noise coming off of the deflector was unbelievable. Driving around it was clear that the sound was coming from straight on, not a side mirror or anything. The only other possibility is that the dealer could have installed the crossbars backwards as a few have reported. I couldn't check this since I only heard about that problem within the last couple of days on this site. Makes me want to look at an aftermarket option or clear-bra.

For now I say "nay."

Could someone explain the clear bra concept? I think gupt was talking about having one "applied" or something? Or do they make the black leather version in clear?

This is from someone who, B.P. (Before Pilot), never even heard of bras for cars. Guess my minivan didn't need one...

Only Partial Coverage...

I had an air deflector on my last SUV, and it completely prevented chips on my hood. I'm a believer.

I wasn't too crazy though when I saw the Pilot's version.
Only covering the center of the hood, I question it's usefulness.

Some Durangos use a 3 piece deflector: one over each headlight, and one in the center hood. Personally, I think it looks weird, but I'm sure it's more effective.

Clear Bra

TopMomm,

They go by many names, Clear Bra is just the semi-generic term I have heard. Here is a very crude explanation of what they are:

Imagine a piece of thick plastic wrap pulled tightly over the nose of your car so that it wasn't noticed outside of four feet from your car. Up close you could see a fine line where the covering ends, but that's it. Supposedly the stuff they use is very strong and will prevnt the dings without sacrificing the look of your car. Around here, I see a lot of them on high-end cars (Lexus, BMW, etc.) Most are done aftermarket as opposed to through a dealer. A friend of mine just got a new Tahoe and he did one of these aftermaket and he absolutley loves it. Not a single paint chip up front. My only reservation is that I am afraid of fading or discoloration over time. Does anyone else know about this?

From what I have see, the issue when you remove the clear bra is not fading as much as the finish surface under the clear bra will be pristine, while the rest of the surface will have fine scratches and swirl marks.

Air deflector

I don't care for them. They ruin the lines of the vehicle.

I also had one on my old Grand Caravan and still had nicks and dead bugs everywhere.

I've never heard of the clear bra concept, but sounds interesting. I suppose it's harder to pick out on the lighter colors than the darker ones.

I actually like the new line you get with the deflector on the front of the Pilot. It gives it more of a truck like appearance.

How high is it? Here is your spacing. I reached under there with a sponge as well, Honda did a great job at making it possible for you to get under this thing and clean.

Also, there is drilling on the underside of the hood BUT it does not go through the top of the hood so if for some reason you do not like this it can come off. (Maybe you want the half-mask for summer months when it is easy to take off and then the Air D. in the winter when you want the protection without having to remove anything to clean?)

banningjr,
Could you take a picture, straight from the front?

Thanks!
