Hi!

I am suspecting that my brake fluid might be contaminated and I wish I could replace it with new brake fluid.

I asked honda and apparently I complete brake flush would need about 3small bottle of DOT3 fluid (340ml) so about liter of fluid.

In the service manual I could not find a section explain how to do it. It seems like it would possible to do it via the bleed screws on each break calipers. How would you do it? On this forum I did not find much about it either. I am surprise.

Thank you

I found this for a 2012 Pilot in the Maintenance forum. It’s the same procedure for a 2003-08 Pilot. Definitely helpful to have a second person to push and release the brake pedal while your loosening and tightening the bleed screws.

And as mentioned in that linked thread, Honda is opposite from general rules and the bleeding order is opposite from the traditional rule of furthest from the master cylinder first.

Thank you! ...I have done a bleeding before using the service manual (starting with the driver side first)... My question (I don't know if I was clear) is how to completely remove the brake fluid and replace it with another one (a "complete flush). Can I simply get rid of everything via the 4 bleed valves and then when everything is gone add the new fluid... My worry is... if there is no fluid anymore, will the new fluid naturally be sucked by the system. Is it the best way to do it?

Turkey baster the old fluid out of the master cylinder until the "min" mark. Then pour new fluid in and bleed as normal, but stay at each caliper until it bleeds clear fluid. I think the fluids won't really mix is my experience. I have upgraded to the Motive Power Bleeder (linky) which I fill with fluid, pump the pressure up, then crack open a bleed screw and leave it open until it runs clear.

There will still be a bit of old fluid in the ABS actuator module after you do a full fluid replacement. I found out after doing a fluid change since the fluid was clear for a few days afterwards, then my wife told me someone cut her off and the ABS system engaged when she slammed the brakes. Fluid in the reservoir was a bit dirtier after that event.
