The numbers look fine -- in my opinion, the question you need to answer is: do you want to trade from a van to an SUV? Your comment above makes it sound like you hadn't really considered trading your van until you discovered what it was worth. Is this an impulse purchase or a move you've been looking to make for a while? In my opinion, nothing beats the space and comfort of a van (even a Pilot!) and the Odyssey of course has a very similar drivetrain to the 2022 Pilot you're considering (just FWD vs. AWD). On the other hand, if you're looking for AWD, then that's a certain upgrade over the Odyssey.

We recently bought the same Pilot you're considering (ours has the beige interior) and we did end up selling our car to Carmax. As you noted regarding tax, the price differential wasn't as great as it first appeared on the surface due to the sales taxes paid at the dealer, but our Honda dealer really low-balled our trade and wouldn't come up much, so we still came out money ahead at Carmax. Carmax bought our 2020 Subaru Ascent for more than we paid for it in March of 2020 -- the car market is pretty crazy right now. We paid exactly MSRP for our Pilot.

Welp - I think you said it perfectly. And you're spot on. It was impulse. That said, our kids lost it when we told them we're getting rid of the Odyssey... so that tells me we might have a few more years of van life to go! Appreciate the clarity you brought to the situation!

My 2019 Touring AWD 8 Passenger had an MSRP of $45,465 and an Invoice of $41,635. These included the destination charge of $1,045. I purchased with no trade in for $42,776 and also received a $1,000 Honda rebate towards the purchase price for an effective sale price of $41,776 and 1.90 finance through Honda Financial for 60 months.

But they also mention VIP package, which to me seems like a mandatory add on. They wouldn’t say anything on email and I am wary to drive 40 miles out to discover they have add ons. Anyone buy in DFW, what kind of deals if any are you seeing. With the redesigned 23 coming soon, I am hoping 2000 off is realistic.

Got my 22 AWD Sport in Jan for $41,500 plus tax. I had no trade in, but Carvana gave me almost $10k for my 2014 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T with a leaking head gasket and 120k miles. So I over paid a bit for the Pilot but got way more than the Santa Fe would have ever been worth. I am happy with the vehicle and the price I paid. Also got the extended warranty to 8 years and 100k miles for about $1600 extra.
