The OE Conti CC LX Sports on our 2022 Pilot are just starting to show little "flakes" or "tearouts" in the tread areas...most notably in the tread shoulder area. They have exactly 45k miles and have about 6/32" of tread in the two center channels and about 5/32" of tread in the two outer channels (this, despite usually running them slightly overinflated relative to the recommended 35 psi). I've been pretty pleased with how these tires have performed, especially so for an OE tire. They are getting a little loud as they wear, but man, they still cut through standing water remarkably well, and they don't feel greasy on wet pavement, either. I'm sure they're deplorable in the snow, but we've never driven it in snow to know for sure.

I'm contemplating new tires options. I've gone back and forth on a lot of different options, and will probably upsize to the 255/50R20 size (despite originally wanting to stay with the OE 245/50R20 size). I'm thinking about the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3, the Michelin Defender 2, or even two of the replacement market Conti offerings, the TerrainContact H/T or the Extreme Contact DWS (yeah, I know, these are all tires from different classes!).

Fortunately, the OE LX Sports are wearing well enough that we should have at least another 5-10k miles to decide.

My wife had chunking on her original tires for her VW ID.4. I had never heard of chunking, let alone seen it. The OEM tires were also lousy tires in terms of performance on snow and rain. We replaced them with Pirelli WeatherActive tires and so far, have seen no evidence of chunking. That was about 10,000 miles ago. The cause of the chunking is not at all clear to me. It could be the tires were just bad either the design or the manufacture. It could also be that the weight of the vehicle put extra stress on the tires. The ID.4 is an EV with a heavy battery. It could be the aggressive acceleration of an EV puts extra stress on the tires. An electric motor has no torque lag when accelerating, especially from a standing stop. Frankly, I have no good explanation for why the chunking occurred other than the tires were bad to begin with.
