Got my 2017 Honda Pilot black box a day early. Thanks UPS! Heres a quick video of the first startup. Glad it was successful. It seems my theory was correct. Everything was plug and play. Vin number doesnt need to be entered. The anti theft keyless entry is the actually module that gives the OK for the headunit to run. At start up it will do a quick diagnostic test. Then I pressed the Power + Menu + Brightness button then a pop up an anti theft box asking to hold on to the power button to verify. After that it cleared and everything went through. All my old fm radio stations came back so it looks like a lot of data isnt even stored on the headunit.

Will update the thread when i do some more testing. any questions ask away.

*Parts*

2017 Pilot Black box assembly Part # 39542-TG7-A12
picked mine up from hondapartsnetwork for $852. search your favorite site or dealership as google search won't pop up most site parts catalog.

*Tools*

Plastic trim removal kit

philips screwdriver, power tool to speed things up.

Removal and install info can by found in my sticky post of service info.
search audio in the remove install folder
http://www.piloteers.org/forums/114...lot/118690-2016-honda-pilot-service-info.html

will make a video on how to remove the black box cover to separate main unit from the screen. Honda didn't properly describe how to remove the ribbons and i almost damaged the ribbon.

Edit: added comparison pictures

Unbelievable! Have you tested other functions yet? I know Honda ran that stupid line about the mic being not good enough which I did not believe in the slightest. Now I think I'll just wait for 17's to show up in the junkyards unless they will release an update that's been rumored to happen. What was the plan if this didn't work? And how can you get the part before the cars are sold? Hmmmm

How much for the box? Where did you order it?
Got mine from hondapartsnetwork. The dealership is in Illinois so no tax for me since I'm in Cali. Got it for $852. All EX and above non navi is the same unit with CarPlay/Android auto. The version with installed Honda navi is 1200. The Honda garmin does do a vin check so I'm not sure how to activate it.

Still haven't done much testing. Played with CarPlay and works the same as our civic. Diagnostic test came back all functional and green. Hondapartsnetwork had the 2017 parts available since Oct. Parts and service info are released to dealerships before vehicles hit the lot. I had access to service express already so I knew the wiring diagram were the exact same. Give it a couple months refurbs show up at half the price. Refurbs are just software fixes that Honda can't do at dealerships. Crazy how Honda charges about $5k for the 2016 models but 2017 models are just $1k. Yet savings aren't passed down to customers.

Anekin now has a 2017 Pilot with some mileage ?
Yeah 2017 pilot built in 2015. About two years too early.

Sweet, so this will effectively give you AP/AA on the dash?
CarPlay was tested towards the end of the video.

FWIW the SD card on which the Nav data resides is claimed to have a proprietary interface. No mention of other memory expansion opportunities in Honda's technical literature.

Nice work. I was thinking of doing something like this if I couldn't get a 2017 Honda Pilot Elite that comes with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and swap out the 2016 model unit with a 2017 model unit. I'm pretty sure those who want a decent upgrade to their infotainment system is going to be checking this thread out.

added some pictures. hardware is identical. I pulled the dumpstate of the new unit and hardware info showing the exact same processor, same amount of memory, and sadly the 1gb of storage space thats cut down to 600mb available. Non Navi units doesnt have an SD slot. I opened up the 2017 One i got and its the same. just an empty hole. its still the same 4.2.2. Nothing changed except the added CarPlay/android auto.

Would be interested if a 2017 non-navi black box will work in a 2016 navi pilot. What do I need Honda navi for if I have CarPlay and an iPhone?
non navi units will work on navi equip pilot. theres no difference other than just the navi software in the blackbox. As CarPlay and android auto becoming more popular on board navi system needs to greatly improve. Theres some people that may not have a compatible device but as technology advances paying for on board navigation shouldn't be an option or cost to buyers.

Did some testing with CarPlay. Honda excuse for incompatible Mic is BS. Phone call works just fine. I can finally send messages with my iPhone. Siri picked up my voice just fine and was able to voice my messages. Siri will speak my message and confirm with me if its correct and ask to send it. New messages are read to me by siri. Phone, contact, messages, and other app is nearly the same as it looks on the iPhone. Apple maps isn't my favorite but it works just fine. One of my favorite feature is if I recently search a place for location it will pop up on Maps for a destination choice, pretty convenient. So glad to be off the crappy honda screen and UI.

Why couldn't they flash the 2016 head unit with the 2017 version of the OS to gain android car play?

Thanks for the pictures .. it speak for itself .. Seems current unit can be up-gradable to provide AA or CP. hoping Honda will do it in coming month.
Why i asked for SD card , in the Developer diag menu , when you go to storage it shows many USB slots and sdcard option .. so there must be sd card slot somewhere .. on your youtube video .. tag y-C1odfr0vU check exactly at 5:41 .. option for sdcard greyed out.

this forum do not allow me to put links but I was looking on some websites for the parts which show the part number 39106-T6L-H01 with sdcard cover.

if you have your 2016 unit out , can you have a look on that ?

Thanks..
