I bought a 2017 Honda Pilot EX (manufactured in May 2017) two years ago in November after a rear-end collision on the highway totaled my 2015. Nothing but trouble since. Back to the dealer four times (three of those for engine/transmission issues). Had a used engine put in this spring (by the dealer) after engine failure.
Tried to start the car on Saturday evening and got a message on the driver's information screen: Keyless start system problem. Thought it was the fob -- not so. Thought it was the push-button start. Called dealer for help under that engine warranty as I thought "Last time this car was touched, that was the repair." Refused to send tow. Had it towed to a garage a mile from home who's earned my trust. The proprietor and two of his mechanics jumped all over it like white on rice. Three of them climbing on the tow truck and popping the hood on the flatbed. Got it started and off the flatbed. Tell me they got engine checklights, transmission messages, emissions control system problem, etc. Proprietor asks if I had ANY checklights during last operation. I swore I saw nothing. He told me "Take it to the dealer. Considering the engine replacement, this is their problem to solve. $40 for our look." Drove it to the dealer.
It's currently sitting at the dealer for diagnostic. We've started the trade-in discussion.
Anybody gotten codes when the emissions system problem message displayed? They're telling me there's a transmission problem. This after one of the previous shop visits being FOR a transmission issue and being told "You'll have no more problems with this Pilot or the transmission." I'm wondering if the engine replacement wasn't done right -- it took about 5 months to go bad but it did. Figured I'd share for any experiences.
