I bought a 2016 Pilot on Oct 31 2016. Mid-October, in an early part of the sales discussion, I expressed my willingness to wait for a 2017 model since I knew Apple CarPlay was expected in that model. My sales person told me Apple CarPlay will be available as an upgrade for 2016 Pilots ... but "we don't know when" ... And said they will update 2016 Pilot owners for free. He would not formally put it in the sales documents since he said Honda corporate was "funny about those things", but i asked them to add it to an email describing the cars features and details. The Honda Dealership send the following in an email to me:
"As soon as the update becomes available for apple car play we will invite you and all the 2016 pilot owners in to Dick Hannah Honda to have the program downloaded free of charge we do not know when it will be available but when it is available we will make sure to give you a call "
Con man at its best.

Honda has no obligation to provide this kind of update, let alone free update. But their competitor, Hyundai, has done things like that. Maybe Honda will feel "guilty" and try to do this as a goodwill gesture to the 2016 Pilots. I certainly hope it's the case, but not putting too much hope on it.

Honda does it occasionally as well... in 2014, they offered a "Siri eyes-free" upgrade on 2013 accords.

I'm looking forward to seeing how many of the must have CP insistent folks will actually install a CP capable unit.

You've been had. Honda corporate came out months before you bought your vehicle and publicly stated they wouldn't/couldn't upgrade CP/AA in 2016 Pilots, citing hardware issues. Dunno what recourse you'll have against your dealership....

It's not a big deal. Concentrate driving instead of fiddling the nav screen for phone functions. It's a novelty that will soon lose favor.

has any body tried this radio out?

8" Inch Quad core Android 7.1 Car DVD player unit GPS for Honda PILOT 2015-2018

how many of you have installed this and can you give any feedback on this radio.

i have also have a used 2017 Honda Pilot radio and tried to install it , but i cant get it to work properly. Unit wont stay on , after a couple of minutes it shuts down. it seems like the antitheft mode is shutting it down. is there a way to access the radios anti theft mode to punch in the code(s)?

I doubt anyone has done it.

Many have said they wanted CarPlay but few have tried.

Here is the item you wanted to link:

Fwiw, I'm told that Honda did have CP all lined up to go in 2016, but Apple made last minute mandated changes that the hardware manufacturer couldn't accommodate in the timeframe available. So adios CP/AA.

Was the used 2017 head unit out of the same model/trim as your 2016?

That may be the only reason why it isn't working. The harness may be slightly different to accommodate Navi or RES, or even both for Elite/Touring in Canada.

if this is the reason then it will confirm that you cant get a diff trim radio work, but i thought i saw someone had purchased a diff trim 2017 radio to use in their 2016 for apple car play and android but wasn't same trim and worked.
