2016 Pilot fuel injector issue

Hello everyone,
I was having an issue with my check engine light. After a few days it would turn off & go back to normal. I would call the dealer & they would tell me to bring it in but by the time I would the light would turn off. They instructed me the next time the light came on to drive it to the dealer & not to turn the vehicle off so I did. They found the issue, they had to replace all of the fuel injectors WOW! The vehicle has 40,000 miles mostly highway driving. I asked the service writer if that was normal & he informed me he has seen this on several pilots. Thank God for the Honda extended warranty I purchased or It would have cost over $1200 to fix. Has anyone else had this issue?

spoke too soon, emissions light came back AGAIN. month later after driving few hundred miles.

everything in TSB has been done
first time: software update
2nd time: injectors replaced
3rd time: said forgot another software update
now 4th time, dont know what else it could be. Wonder if they waive the diagnostic fee because the dealer last did the problem.

Read your other post, your vehicle is at 110k miles?
As mentioned by @Hondamon , it be good to be able to scan the codes yourself. There are a number of things that could trigger an emissions code. Most major auto parts stores will scan your vehicle for free. Keeping up with some basic maintenance can help to keep a vehicle out of the shop. The first thing I would do if your vehicle were mine is to disable the VCM, I use S-VCM.
S-VCM Controller - Disable VCM / deactivate VCM and stop ECO in Honda Acura
Here is my short list...
  • Disable the VCM
  • Air filter New/Clean installed correctly, box sealed
  • Air intake tube leak/crack free, clamps tight
  • Clean the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF)
  • Replace PCV Valve
  • Spark plugs New/Clean NGK Laser Iridiums (at 100k miles)
  • Oil changes done on time, no going past due
  • Use a quality full synthetic 0w20 engine oil. No extended performance oil or semi blend (semi blend is used by many dealerships)
  • No cheap economy priced oil filters
  • If vehicle is primarily used for city driving. Take the vehicle out on the highway for some extended periods of highway speed drives.

Has your injection or p0219b and/or p030x been completely fixed? I have the similar issue on my 2018 Odyssey Elite with 88k miles, has similar engine as Pilot. I dropped it to dealer only to find out that they do not have the injectors in stock nationwide altogether they acknowledge the issue. And they called me to pick up the car, this isn’t right as driving a misfire can can create further damage to catalytic converter, and polluting the environment. I’m in California where the car emission is very strict here. This could open up a class action lawsuit and Honda could also be penalized by EPA or government. Anyone has already file lawsuit Or class action lawsuit? I’m interested to join. Thanks

As you read I did it all, injectors replaced, software update, apparently another software update, and after all that, light came back on 3x. Each time they would just disappear though. So far knock on wood it hasnt come back after a while now. So I dont know if its truly fixed or what.

I'm also in CA. My pilot is getting up there in mileage. I believe 120K miles now. Might be perfect timing to trade it in for the 4th gen pilot which should be coming soon.

This issue has just started for me. Coming back from work the check engine light came on, car started to shudder at low speed <5mph and at stopped idle. Check engine light disappeared after 2 days, then came back on. Dealer wasn't able to find a problem and suggested throttle body replacement. During TB repair, they were able to duplicate my issue and determined it was the fuel injectors. Well just one injector, but dealer said they only came as a rack of several injectors (6), and all had to be replaced. $1300. Earlier this year I had torque converter replaced and had air conditioning unit replaced due to "Black Death". I've spent almost $10k on this car this year. Really doubting the reliability of Hondas.

Just curious how the reimbursement went. I'm going through that now with my 2016 Pilot. Injectors replaced earlier this week, and I found out about the TSB extending the warranty to 10 years 150k miles the next day. Car is with dealer now for Emissions Problem warning, I showed them the TSB and waiting to hear back. Might have to escalate to Honda if dealer pushes back.

Just wanted to say thanks for everyone's contributions on this issue; my wife's 2016 (116k now) started throwing the CEL intermittently with the usual codes and dash lights but would stop...and come back. Then they stayed on and after a while we felt significant rough acceleration issues at low RPMs, flashing check engine light, etc. I had our letter from Honda regarding the extended warranty; I still didn't trust that they would just do the injectors, so I went through this forum to ensure I was informed and covered my bases when I brought it in. I told them all the codes I pulled and how it fit the pattern of the injector issue with the extended warranty. They checked it over and I was astonished that I've never had a better dealership experience. He knew exactly what I was talking about and had the injectors replaced and ECM updated per 20-100 that day. All good so far after a full day of use, the difference is night and day. Thanks again everyone. P.S. I am not being compensated for this review. :) But please let me know if I can answer any questions.
