Recently decided to upgrade my 2016 Pilot Elite to Garmin's latest map update (2023).

Turns out, it does not work. I followed the instructions (yes I used a 16GB flash drive) and Garmin Express kept telling me that there was not enough memory on my Pilot to upgrade. Ok, so why was it listed as an available upgrade.

Communicated with Garmin Support and sent them all the files they asked for. They came back "it's a problem with your Honda, have the dealer check the entertainment/navigation system".

Went to Honda Dealer who tried the upgrade and they had the same issue. Spoke to Honda customer service and they told me it was a Garmin issue.

Garmin refunded my money for the update without a problem. But 2016 Honda Pilot owners, BEWARE, even though Garmin and Honda will tell you there is a 2023 map update and even sell it to you, it will not work.

Honda and Garmin obviously need to work out the issue. Kind of disappointing that I can no longer update my maps on a Pilot.

I had that issue when I upgraded to the 2022 maps but it was due to the thumb drive still having map files on it from the previous update. I had to do a full format on the thumb drive to get it work. Garmin software is well known to be glitchy. I actually use my phone for navigation so I won't be paying for the latest update.

Hondamon - yes I successfully updated last year to the 2022 maps. The problem was the 2023 update.
Troy812 - interesting, I never thought about deleting the maps on the vehicle first. I look forward to the link to the YouTube video.

The desktop software is really frustrating (the software you have to use to force the update files onto the USB). I tried several times, on several different Windows computers, to get the software to work. The software would always install, but it would usually crash either upon launching or halfway through the USB drive update. I eventually tried it on my daughter's MacBook and the software did work there on the first try.

But yeah...I'm not impressed with their desktop software nor the process required to get the map updates.

Troy: Yes, that is what I have done in the past. However, when attempting to do that with the Honda-Garmin 2023 map update, it would not load the maps on the 16GB flash drive. It said that the new maps added additional info and do not fit on my 2016 Honda Pilot. So just to experiment, I tried a 32GB flash drive....same message.

I contacted Garmin and sent them all my logs and other info they wanted. They came back and said it was an issue with the vehicle and Honda needed to address it. Contacted Honda customer service and they said take it to the dealer.

I went to the dealer and they attempted to upgrade the maps and ended up not getting it to work.

Went back to Garmin and they refunded me my money with no issues.

I just wanted anyone who has a 2016 Pilot to know that the latest 2023 map update does not work. All the others in the past have worked.

If someone has gotten the 2023 map update to work on 2016 Pilot, please let me know how you did it.
