Hello, we are looking at a 2009 Honda Pilot EX, everything is good and drives great, but did notice a faint tick in the engine. I have heard this is the “Honda tick”. But just want to be sure before we buy. Thanks in advance and much appreciated!!
Fuel injectors tick and is normal. But without hearing myself it's hard to say. Valves on the Honda V6 occasionally need adjusting. If the engine sounds like a smooth running sewing machine without a vibration, all is good.
Normal cold engine valve clearance is .008 intake, .012 exhaust. It's normal to hear a little valve clicking on startup, should quiet down when warmed up. If you are not sure where the click is coming from, pay a few $ to have a mechanic go over the car for you. It's worthwhile to have a mechanic check it over in any case.
