Yesterday at the store I went to open my tailgate and it wouldn't open. The glass would open but the tailgate was stuck. I get it home and mess with it some more and when unlock is pushed the tailgate will unlock and lock itself over and over, when lock is pushed it locks like it should. I pulled the plastic cover off and can see the lever cycling back and forth lock/unlock when unlock is pushed. Has anyone had this happen or know whats going on? I hope its an easy fix and dont want to go to the stealership to pay 100 bucks just to diagnose it.

You don't say if you opened the hatch once you gained access inside the plastic plate. Just asking to make sure to see if you might have determined that you have a defective latch or latch switch

I thank you very much for Piloteers. My 2012 Honda Pilot faced a crash at rear closer to the tailgate. the impact was at the bumper and towing hook and was not much damaged. In the next day when I tried to open the trunk in all possible ways it was stuck and nothing I could do other than thinking to driving to the dealer or dealing with the insurance. The good news is thanks to the piloteers forum 2009 EXL. I got very important experience of the same problem the gate was stuck because of the rubber covering the bumper. After I read that information, I checked the rubber thing covering the bumper. I realized that It was pushed up by the crash at the rear and blocked the easy way of the tailgate. Then I pushed down the rubber cover to its place and the tailgate is free to be closed and opened now. Because of this problem my dash board was alarming and warning me to close the door continuously. Besides,I stopped driving for Uber rideshare for a while.
