Best video I've seen to help get at that location is the one for installing the GTI Car Kit Bluetooth adapter.

See if you can find instructions from Crutchfield. Otherwise if I remember correctly (for my 2005 when replacing the radio) it’s just a matter of using a trim removal tool to pry the panel off; be gentle when you pull the panel out since there are electrical connections which you could damage if you’re not careful.

IIRC, when I did it on my 2006 (twice: once for the GTA Bluetooth adapter and once to replace hazard button backlight), in order to remove the trim with the hazard switch cluster, I first had to remove the trim to the left of it, and to do that I had to remove the black trimmed clear plastic instrument panel window.

A couple of tips: Tilt your steering wheel down as far as it will go first, and use a short Philips screwdriver to remove the two screws holding that plastic instrument panel window in place under the top of the dash. The video really helped.
